L Licked his lips, staring down at the burlap sack at his feet. Sitting in his same, hunched position, he opened the sack, peering at its contents. He smiled. Lollipops, chocolates, various fruity candies, gum, caramels… The colorful wrappers filled his eyesight and the delicious smells conquered his nose. He could almost taste the Snickers bar that lay right in front of him. He reached out for a colorfully-wrapped piece of strawberry hard candy and lifted it up, crunching the end between his two index fingers and thumbs. The 'crunch crunch' made him smile wider, and he unwrapped the confection, popping it gratifyingly into his mouth. He closed his eyes as he sucked on the candy, smiling satisfyingly.

Click. The hotel room door had opened. L's eyes, too, popped open, and shot to look at the door. In the doorway stood Kana Albany, the new girl on the task force. She stared at L, who stared back. Kana's eyes shifted to the burlap sack. A pumpkin sticker with a ghoulish face brandished the front of the bag, which itself bore a black hue, purple decorating the edges. Her jaw dropped open. "Is that… Halloween candy?" she asked after a pause.

L looked back down at his boon and opened another strawberry hard candy, popping it into his mouth. He nodded. In shock, Kana walked closer to her partner in the search for Kira. "B-But it's February!" L took a bite out of the Snickers bar that had called his name earlier.

"So?" he replied, looking onto the girl with innocent eyes. She folded her arms.

"Valentine's Day is in two days. You really couldn't wait until then?" L blinked.

"Well, I had to keep myself busy with some kind of candy; otherwise, I would have eaten this." He pulled something out from behind his back.

In L's pale hands lay a box shaped like a heart with a bow on the top. He offered it up to Kana, who took it from him. Upon opening the pink box, Kana found a bounty of chocolates inside, just begging her to eat them with their inviting smell. Her eyes switched from the chocolates down to L. "…Is this for me?" L smiled widely, standing from his hunched position.

"Yes. I had Watari pick them up for you," L said in his usual, shameless manner. Blushing, Kana just stared at L. Smiling unabashedly, L said, "It's early, but happy Valentine's Day, Kana-chan."

Kana almost started crying at the affectionate gesture. She closed the box carefully, then hastily wrapped her arms around L's neck. "Happy Valentine's to you, too, L."
