The Masks we Wear
This mask
My protection
A shield
I am the Roman warrior
The world is the lion I must defeat
My mask is my armor
Then,
That lioness tears my armor away
I panic
Her attack caught me off guard
Screams of pain escape my lips
The lioness whimpers as my words stab her
Like a sword she writhers under my glare
I lay myself before her to die
Regret storms me like a wave
Instead of attacking the lioness retreats
I'm the animal,
Attacking the defenseless lioness
A mere child compared to the rest
I shake in the ring,
My armor gone,
I am exposed to the danger
I am alone to face the world and scared
