You are my life's distraction

Chapter 1- Haunted through my dreams

(Set after the 2nd series. Alex's POV)

My heart raced. I laid on the ground surrounded by black. Black walls, Black floor, Black everything. Then he appeared. He looked no different than he did before. Same clothes and same overall appearance.

"Alex..." He pleaded walking towards me. He looked down at me. He reached out ahead and left his hand dangling in the air. He raised it slowly. My body reacted lurching upwards, pulling me towards him. He dropped the hand quickly and my body hit the ground.

"Oww..." I gasped. I was like a puppet. Controlled by Gene Hunt. He pulled my strings manipulating the way I moved. He repeated this motion. Everytime hurting me more and more. He disappeared. I gasped for breath, like I had been suffacated, and woke up.

"Mum..." A familiar voice whispered. "Good Morning."

"Heya Mols. Aren't you supposed to be at school." I asked my voice was hoarse.

"Evan brought me in to see you." She smiled. I searched the room for him. I had seen him only once since I had woke up and in truth I missed the 2009 Evan. Too many memories of 1981 rushed through my mind when I couldn't find him.

"Where is he?" I asked. Turning my attention back to her.

"Are you looking for me?" He asked shutting the door behind him. He had aged well, really.

"Evan." I grinned.

"Well I wish all women were that pleased to see me." He leaned over and gave me a awkward hug. I didn't know if it was me or him that was being awkward really. "We've got to go, Molly."

"Please 5 more minutes?" She pleaded.

"No, Mols. Come in tommorow?" I smiled fakely.

"Tonight?" Molly grinned. I looked up at Evan.

"Okay." He sighed before chuckling. "See you tonight then Alex." He held the door for Molly and winked silently to me before he left.

The nurse entered the room and checked the necessary observations on the monitors.

"How are we today, Alex?" She smiled.

"Good, I guess." I sighed.

"Why 'I guess'?" She asked.

"Nothing medical." I sighed and snuggled down into the covers.

"Well I have something that might cheer you up." She beamed. It was quite annoying her being so damn cheerful all the time. "Your free to go!"

"What?" I asked sitting up in bed eyes wide.

"Yep," She pulled out a small suitcase filled with my possesions. "We packed them away while you were sleeping."

"Thank you." I smiled. Was this what it felt like to be cheerful all the time?

"I'll let you rest a little more." She left the room. I snuggled down under the covers and waited to drift back to sleep. I hoped that the previous dream would not return.

I opened my eyes this time to a hospital room. I wasn't sure if I was awake or asleep at that moment in time. The lights were bright and painful to your eyes.

"Alex..." His voice sounded weird and out of place. His voice sounded guilty. My eyes searched for him. He hadn't changed much. Infact he was wearing the same thing as he was when I was shot. It was his face that had changed. I could have swore he had been crying. His eyes were red and puffy. He hadn't shaved in a while, patches of stubble stained his face in a horrible grey color. "Gene?" I whispered.

"Bolly... I mean Alex. I'm so glad your awake." He moved his hand to mine and held it tight in both of his. "Alex we need to talk..."

I woke up in reality. The lights were still bright but not as bright as the dream. I got up and started to dress in some normal clothes. I rushed out of the door with my suitcase in hand praying that my dreams would be left behind.
