SUN IN HER EYES
Summary - Sometimes if you want something bad enough you can almost see it…
**********
As before, morning's heated glare over a flat sea burned into her intent gaze.
Gold-tinged clouds seemed to blur, to shimmer with a faint burst of jagged green.
In a bright flicker, a familiar ancient ship appeared to ride on the dazzling horizon.
Her eyes strained against tears to capture the wavering sight, but the sun's power blinded her and forced her to blink.
As her vision cleared, Elizabeth saw only a distant merchant ship, white sails stiff with a rising wind.
Somewhere a soul had returned, but not brought back to her.
Once more, the sun in her eyes had tricked a waiting heart.
