"Edward, I am in no state to be with you right now." She sighed. "Goodbye." It sounded more like a plead than a dismissal. He forced the door to stay open as she attempted to close it.

"Bella, just listen to me for a moment," he begged her. She shook her head sadly at him.

Her brown eyes stared into his golden ones. "Just go," she whispered. The sad look she gave him broke his heart in a single moment. He forgot his strength completely. Time froze, and her translucent eyes started to cry.

In that single moment of time, Fate ripped their lives apart at the seams. A heart-breaking glance, a tear on a cheek. He wanted to reach out to her, but he only saw his angel being swept away. Her small face had a trail of a tear.

Edward reached out his hand to her face and her skin shivered under his touch. He wiped away the tear, but his hand lingered there a moment longer. Bella clasped his wrist with both of her hands. She lowered the hand from her face. Letting it drop from her grip, she took a step away.

Her body shivered from the wetness of her clothes. He started to shed his jacket, but her warm hand touched his once more.

"Don't, Edward," she whispered. She smiled without emotion. "I'm going to be okay." She took another step away. "I promise you." Her hand left his and she turned into the house.

"Bella!" he called, but she was already gone. The door closed in front of him. He couldn't leave, that would make it official.

His angel had left him. She was gone. Edward was faced with this predicament. He had driven her away, and he couldn't get her back. He turned away from the unforgiving door that held no love for him anymore. He stood in the driveway, letting the rain soak his cold body, for a moment.

Turning around again, his eyes found her window. And she was heaven, he was hell. With sad eyes full of tears, she lifted a hand in farewell. Edward returned this gesture and his angel left his view. The curtains closed, and the demon could no longer see his heaven.

He trudged to his car and opened the door. As he sat, her scent swirled around him in an ominous, mocking way. For a fleeting moment, he looked up. But she wasn't there; she wasn't coming back.

As the silver car pulled from the driveway, she ran to the door. She yanked it open, but he wasn't looking anymore. "Edward!" she yelled, but he wasn't listening anymore either.

She wasn't ready to erase him. She couldn't lose him, not yet. She fell to her knees in the foyer of her house, letting her head fall. The broken angel sobbed for her lost demon. She would give up this heaven if only to be with him. But he wouldn't ever knkow.

The angel and the demon couldn't be together. Fate caused the two to cry for a lost love, but neither knew of the silent pain of their one true love.

He would live alone for his immortal life. She would marry her angel and turn her heaven into hell. A true love was lost that one, fateful night where a simple misunderstanding got out of hand.

They were the lion and the lamb, but Fate wouldn't write their happy ever after...

Was that sad? I think it's sad.

Disclaimer: I own nothing but this plot. Because there's a reason why it's called fanfiction.
