(This story is the sequel to 'The plane trip' so if you haven't read that, then I highly suggest that you do.)
"Um, Mimi?" Yolei asked. "Why are we in a limo? And why are the windows blacked out? Where are we going?"
"That's for me to know and you to find out. Now get comfortable, we've got a long ride ahead."
"Noooooo!" Tai whined.
"Let's see… If it costs this much for dinner tonight…" Joe scribbled on a pad of paper.
"Whatcha doin' Joe?" Matt asked.
"I'm trying to figure out how we can manage food on this trip and still have money left over for souvenirs." Joe answered.
"Speaking of souvenirs," Davis appeared, "Check out what I got at the airport!" He held up two bits of string tied on pieces of wood so they looked like two connected rings. "It's a puzzle. You have to try to get these apart." He handed it to Matt. Matt fiddled with it for a while before he got fed up and threw it down.
"I'm sorry Davis, but I can't do it with you hovering over top of me laughing and saying, 'Nope, not even close,' every two minutes!" He said.
Davis snickered. "You try Joe." He picked up the puzzle and tried to hand it over.
"I'm sorry Davis, but I don't have time."
"Come on."
"This is important."
"Just one try…"
"Fine." Joe took it and did it in half a minute. "There." And went back to his work. Davis's smile faded, then returned.
"I bet Tai can't do it!" He began to scoot over to where Tai and the others were talking to Mimi about New York.
"How did you figure it out?" Matt asked Davis.
"Looked off of the box. How else?" He gave the puzzle to the others.
"I fear for the sanity of our group." Matt told Joe.
"I fear for Davis's life." Joe replied without looking up. In the background Matt could hear Tai say, "Davis, back off. Personal space! And stop laughing!" By the end of the ride Davis had succeeded in getting everyone agitated at him, except Izzy, Kari, Sora, and Ken, who had figured it out.
"Okay, there's something I need to tell you." Mimi said when she sensed that they were getting close. Everyone listened. "We are staying with my Uncle Bob."
"O-kay…" Izzy waited. "And?"
"And that's it." Mimi smiled.
"That's the big surprise?" Said Matt, "That's what we came all the way out here for?"
"Yep."
"Oh." At this point the limo came to a screeching halt. The digidestined got out. They stared at the white house in front of them.
"Your uncle is Robert Lobby, the president of the United States!?" Yolei screeched.
"Yep!" Mimi giggled at her friends' surprise.
"We're staying here?" Joe stared in disbelief.
"Yep!" Mimi beamed.
"You drove us all the way to Washington D.C.?" Asked Sora, thrilled.
"Yep!"
"Kari and I get to share a room?" This one was Davis, asking in the same excited voice as the others, as if Mimi had already said yes.
"Yep! Oh wait… No."
"No way!" Tai glowered over Davis.
"Down, Tai." Kari said, and Tai reluctantly backed off.
"This is unbelievable!" Matt exclaimed.
"That Kari treats Tai like a dog?" Izzy asked.
"No. I mean, yes, but I can't believe that we're staying at the White House! It has a bowling alley! We're gonna party!"
"Now hold on." Mimi said. "I know my uncle will be in Alaska, but we still have to behave. This is a highly governmental building."
"No bowling alley?"
"No party." The boys burst out laughing. Mimi gave them a look that could peel paint.
"Oh. You were serious?"
"Yes! I told my Uncle Bob that you'd behave!"
"Why'd you tell him that?" asked Davis.
"Let me put it this way, Davis. You don't behave, and I'll send Tai out on you." Kari shot a warning look at the advancing Tai, who retreated.
"Are you ready to go in? Uncle Bob wants to meet you before he leaves."
"He does?"
"Yeah. He has a daughter Cody's age."
"Cool."
"Hey Mimi?"
"Yeah Davis?"
"Does the President of the United States like puzzles?"
"No!" Everyone yelled.
