They just got back to the station after going to a murder scene at the hospital where a women just had a baby but the estranged father didn't want to share custody with her so he poisoned her then took off with the baby. While the task force try to find the baby Barry had to find what kind of poisoning it was. When he was walking to his lab he heard crying. As he turned the corner he saw Patty with her head in her hands.
"Patty what's wrong?" He asked her coming up and putting his hand on her shoulder.
"Nothing," He raised an eyebrow at her " Fine, It's just being in the maternity ward today reminded me what i can't have." She said choking back a sob.
"Oh because you're a Detective you think you can't have kids but let me tell you something... " "Barry." "Joe had iris and me, he did just fine…" "Barry." " You might be affied something might happen because of your job but…." "BARRY I CAN'T HAVE KIDS!" She yelled starting to sob. That shut him up pretty quickly and it took him a few moments to recover.
"Patty i'm so sorry i should have listened better." He said pulling her into a hug. "Are you ok?"
"Ya it's just that seeing those moms with their smiling happy babies makes me wish i could have that to." She said into his chest.
" You can adopt one, there are a lot of babies who need homes and someone to love them." He said kissing the top if her head.
"I know it's just that i want to feel the joy and pain of caring the baby for nine months and then holding them in my arms as a reward for it all." She said.
"Maybe one day technology will come far enough that you can," He said "just hold on and if it doesn't keep adoption in mind."
"Thank you Barry you always seem to make things better" She said reaching up and pecking him on the lips.
"Any time Patty." He said reaching down kissing her deeply.
Later that night Patty's doorbell rang. When she opened the door she saw Barry with a big grin on his face and his hand behind his back back.
"Barry what are you doing here and what is behind your back?" She asked with a smile.
"Well even though you aren't going to have kids right now i still think you should practice." He said bringing his hand out from behind him revealing a squirming husky puppy.
"AWWW, Barry where did you get him?" She asked taking the puppy in her hands.
"My neighbor's husky had puppies and i thought you could use the practice. He could be your baby or maybe if possible our baby." He said with a sheepish grin.
"I think i would like that," She said with a wide grin taking his hand " So what are we going to name him?"
"How about Boomer?"
"No, what about Coda?"
"I like that. " He said. He started to kiss her but Coda started to squirm in the middle of them then started to lick them until they broke apart. They both started to laugh.
