Onee-chan

Author's Note: This story is based off a drawing I did. I only own the drawing and my OCs. Everything else belongs to their respective owners.

"Will you brush my hair?" Hana-chan (her name means "flower-friend") looks up. Little Nobody (a sweet but misnamed child), in her sleeveless pink dress, is standing in the doorway; her grey, short hair a mess, lavender eyes wide and hopeful. Hana smiles, her green eyes warming. "Of course." A cry of delight, Nobody eagerly but politely moves to sit in her lap. From the pocket of her pink and magenta kimono, Hana draws a plain wooden brush. Her brush, no, their brush; it has touched both Nobody's short, grey cut and Hana's seemingly-endless, blue locks. She can tell, as she starts to brush Nobody's hair, that the child is bursting with happiness.

Nobody sighs in content as she feels the soft bristles gently tug her hair. No one can brush hair like Hana-chan, she thinks, no, she knows. Not even Mama. Oh sure, she knew Mama loved her and had raised (and continues raising) her in a way Hana-chan could never. But it is a parent's job to prepare their child for everything in life, good and bad, and her mama Snow was no exception. Whenever she brushed Nobody's hair, there was always some worry, some concern about one thing or another in the air, and Nobody could feel it. Not with Hana-chan though. Hana-chan made all the bad things disappear.

Such soft hair, Hana thinks, like the down of a new-born chick. For this one moment, each and every day, Hana's worries and sorrows would disappear as she allowed Nobody's love and cheerfulness to infect her. To make her forget the horrors of the world. Nobody hums, singing softly to herself. Hana whispers sweet nothings, gentle words, and heartfelt promises in to the younger girl's ear. But in truth words a meaningless. For this one moment nothing exists but these two young girls, brushing each other's hair and each calling the other by a shared secret name: Angel. For this one moment they are safe in a sanctuary of love. Just to sisters, not of blood but of soul. Yet that bond is strong enough to last forever. And for this one moment, neither Nobody nor Hana need anyone else. They are content with one another's love. It is enough.

*Author's Note:"onee-chan" is a Japanese term for "big sister".
