Lament

The icy darkness of the tower stretches on for eternity. In all of her life she can't remember a time of such loneliness. Her one thousand years of cultivation feel like the effort of another person. She can barely recall why she wanted such a thing in the first place.

All that exists is the darkness and her memory of two people. The first is Xǔ Xian, her husband, her heart and the memory that she lives for. Their final parting replays once more in her mind. No matter how they tried they couldn't reach one another.

He wanted to be with her.

Her hands still feel his touch. She remembers how he tried to hold her. He wanted to keep her by his side. She would have given anything to stay by his side. She remembers his voice calling to her.

'I will live for you' is a now ancient vow. She said it to him while he slept. He hadn't even heard her; couldn't tell her not to, couldn't tell her that he would too. Since their separation the question has gnawed on her consciousness.

A low, weary hiss escapes her. His fragile mortal life has long since ended. He can have died and been reborn too many times for her to count. Even Xiǎo Qīng will likely have died; her precious, precious sister Xiǎo Qīng.

She was too blind at the time. Xiǎo Qīng had a sweeter and brighter smile during the last of their peaceful days. That former monk, Néng Rěn, seemed to have given her something worth living for; something more than mischief and silly games.

She was too blind to congratulate her sister. Then she destroyed whatever bond they had forged. Her marriage tore Xiǎo Qīng's hopes of love apart. Xiǎo Qīng was always the wrong kind of person to fall in love. She was a weak-willed, scared little person.

For Xiǎo Qīng to watch her sister's fate sealed, watch her love be trivialised into meaningless words and actions that would be too much. She would run away from Néng Rěn. She still knows her sister's ways. There would be no possibility of her remaining with the former monk.

Did Xiǎo Qīng spend the rest of her life trying to save her?

Weakly, she turns to the single ray of light pouring down from the ceiling. "Afterlife, please wait for me…"

Author's Note: Wow, I did this in time! There's over two hours before the deadline! I'm so happy; I adore this movie. Sorcerer and the White Snake is just amazing. There are no words to describe how much I adore that film. I'm so happy to have been able to share this with everyone. Too bad there are not many things for this. Thank you for reading. I hope you enjoyed this. I apologise if this is unsatisfactory.
