How Things Change

She stared at the computer screen, willing the words to appear on the page. A sigh was the result of that endeavor. "I hate writer's block", she thought to herself. Doctor Temperance Brennan glanced at the clock hanging on the wall of her office. An hour had already passed with no progress on her new novel. "Where can I go from here? She glanced at her cell phone which lay unusually quiet on her desk. "I'm surprised no one has tried to kick me out of here yet. Sheglanced at the wall clock one again. "It's only 7? Normally I'm still working strong, but what is so different about tonight?" Her eyes wandered to her calendar, which had tomorrow circled in blue. A closer look informed her that tomorrow was the two year anniversary of her and Booth's partnership. "Has it really been two years with that man?

A small smile graced her lips as she thought of their encounter at the airport. "Who knew this partnership would last this long? Everyone was betting that it wouldn't last and now look how far we have come. Booth and I have one of the best case histories in the bureau. Booth informed her yesterday that the other agents on the floor were getting jealous and starting to ask him for team ups with his scientist. "How has this partnership survived? The skills we brought to this were at extreme end of the spectrum. He brought his gut and people skills while I brought bones.

Temperance rolled her neck till she heard a strange but comforting crack. She spinned around in her chair and when she stopped her eyes landed on Jasper. "He is my partner in every sense of the word. He scaled the walls of my defenses and now he is in a spot only one other person has been able to get to." Her eyes drifted from the pig to the picture frame next to it that contained a picture of Angela and her. "What would I do without her, my link to the living? She has backed off in the past two years about my social life. Maybe it is because Booth has been helping with that. Angela was right though, he is my knight in FBI standard issue body armor. Epps, Kenton, Mara Muerte, Michael, the Grave Digger, he was there. He is still there for me and I will know I can always count on him."

A sudden knock at her door snapped Temperance out of her thoughts. At her doorway was none other than Special Agent Seeley Booth. "Heya Bones, what are you still doing here? It's 7:30 on a Friday night," he teased her. "Working, do we have a new case?" was her reply. "No, no case. I'm just making sure that my partner actually gets around to eating every once in a while. So what do you say to some Wong Foo's?" he asked with his "charm smile". Temperance pondered for a moment before saying, "Ok", as she turned off her computer.

Once she reached her office door, Booth automatically place his hand at the small of her back. "What were you working on Bones?" "Not much, just thinking about some things," she replied. "Well Bones, if that thinking ever becomes too much, you know who to call." She paused for a second with a smile on her face. "Yeah I know. Can I drive?" "Nice try Bones. Where did you learn that one?" They reached the main door and as Booth held it open for her, she leaned in close and asked "Do you really want to know?" Booth let the door close and under his breath responded "Probably not."
