Chapter 1

I woke up to the bright sun, streaming through the big windows of my bedroom. As I sat up, I stretched my stiff arms, hearing the cracking of my joints. I smiled. I knew what today was. It was the day. I'm 7 years old today. So according to the state of Washington, I'm 19 and I don't have to go

"Nessie?" I heard as I got out of bed.

"In here!" I replied. Jacob poked his head around the door as I was pulling on my sweats to cover my underwear.

"Sorry," He said coming in and jumping on my bed. "thought you'd be up by now."

"It's okay." I said giving Jacob a huge smile. "So..."

"So...?" He mimicked confused. I laughed.

"So, what are we going to do today?" It is my birthday. We may not be human but we still celebrate. Duh.

"I dunno. I kinda thought we could go over and visit Dad. Haven't seen him in a while." What? Is he joking? It's my peak birthday and he want to visit his Dad. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but not today.

"Oh. Okay." I said a little pouty.

"Great!" He said jumping up. "Get dressed and meet me at the house. We can take my truck." He stated and walked out the door. I just don't understand. I know I'm young but come on. I thought maybe, just maybe, Jake might want to do something a little more, you know...romantic?

"You have got to be kidding me." I spoke to myself as I fell on my bed. I always wonder what I mean to him. I know it's silly. He loves me. He's alway told me so, but I wonder how he loves. As a sister, a lover, a friend? It's just so confusing. I know how I feel. I want to marry him. I know I'm completely different than my mother in that way. She wanted to be with my father forever but she didn't really care about getting married. My father did. I on the other hand, want nothing more than to marry him. He means everything and want to be with him in everyway possible. Not that Mom didn't, I'm just saying.

After dressing, I stepped outside. It was a quite walk as I started back to the house. I looked around at the rustling trees. The wind sweeping them from side to side. I loved Something didn't seem right. I heard a rustling behind her. I froze. As I began to turn around, a hand slapped quickly over my mouth and dragged me behind the nearest tree.

With all my streangth, I grabbed the hand from my mouth and pulled it over my shoulder. It wasn't hard, due to the fact I am very strong. But to my surprise, it was only Jacob laying on the ground in front of me.

"Jeez, Ness. I was trying to surprise you not attack you." He said, jumping up to his feet. He didn't with such grace. I'm sure he didn't even feel any pain.

"Jacob!" I exclaimed, hitting him on the shoulder. "You scared me! What are you doing."

"Well, I was going to surprise you. You know. For your birthday." He said shrugging.

"Really!" I can't believe I fell for that. "I thought you had forgotten." I said looking at my feet.

"Nessie," He said to me, stepping closer to me, and lifting my chin. "I will never forget about you." He smiled. "But you know that. Don't you?" I smiled back, looked into his beautiful dark brown eyes and nodded my head.

"Do you love me. I'm mean, I know you do, but do you just love, or are you in love with me?" When I said this he just stared at me. "I mean," I blushed and looked down. "I'm in love with you and I just thou-"

"Nessie..." He cut me off. He put his arms around my waist and pulled me up closer to him. Our mouths were inches away, the only part of us not touching each other. "I've never lover anybody, the way I love you." He whispered. Than he kissed me. It was a soft, gentle kiss, but it was nothing like the sisterly kisses I had gotten before. It was so much more. It's like he stole my breath away.

I pulled my arms up around his neck and intertwined my fingers in his hair, willing us closer together. Then he pulled away and looked at me again. He smiled, kissed me one more time, and pulled me along with him to the house.
