When school ended for the summer, I was excited to go back home and see my parents, my cousins, and of course, the love of my life, Jacob. On the long plane ride home from New Hampshire, I tried to envision things to say to Jacob when I saw him again. Would I get my first kiss? What would he say to me? My stomach churned with nervousness. What if he met someone else and forgot me? What if he moved away? What if he did what my mom almost did when my dad left her?
Since there was at least six hours left in my flight, I tried to go to sleep on the plane, but I was unable to find sleep because so many questions flew around in my head. When I finally fell asleep, I dreamt of Jacob. In the dream, he gave me the most romantic kiss. Luckily, the flight attendant woke me up when we landed in Port Angeles. I retrieved the new shiny red Ferrari my dad left for me at the airport and was on my way. Since it was very late when I got in and I did not want to drive in the rain, I decided to check into a motel for the night, a place called the Pine Valley Inn. I went into the building and shook the rain from my long brown hair. The receptionist, a middle-aged blond woman, looked up from writing.
"May I help you?" she said in a nasally voice. "Yes, my name is Vanessa Wolfe. Are there any rooms available tonight?" I asked, using the psuedonym my mother had given on my ID.
"Yes, there are, Miss Wolfe. Would you like a smoking room or a non-smoking room?" she asked.
"Non-smoking, please. Single bed, if you have it," I replied.
"Here's your key. Your room is number 107, out those doors and to your left," she said.
I gave her my credit card and driver's license. I followed her direction to my room. The door was painted aqua blue; the paint was chipping off. The silver numbers that read '107' looked fairly new. I inserted my key in the door and it opened. The main highlights of my room were a broken TV, a small bathroom, and a very lumpy bed with a broken lamp on the nightstand. I set the suitcases down on the floor next to the door and sat on the bed. Since I had slept on the plane, I was not very tired. So I pulled out my iPod and started playing a random song. The song was "Gotta Be Somebody" by Nickelback. I mouthed the lyrics and sang along with the catchy tune. Before I knew it, I fell asleep on top of the sheets. Again, I dreamt of Jacob, and he was lying next to me. I was cuddled softly in his arms...
