On My Wedding Day – FullMetal Alchemist
Maes.
I don't know if you can really hear me. You know I never bought any of that religious crap, but still.…
I want you to hear this.
I got married today, Maes. I know you would have wanted to be there. You were always telling me to get a wife. Everything was…perfect. The sakura blossoms were falling on us, the sun was shining, and everybody we knew was there…..
Black Hayate tried to eat the wedding cake, but Fury stepped in right before Lieutenant Hawkeye got her gun out. Everyone was so emotional. Believe it or not, even she was crying!
It's been so long, Maes. So long since I've seen you…and yet…I still feel like someday you're going to call me when I'm working and tell me what Elysia did this week or to tell me to get a wife yet again…
"Maes…" Roy mumbled aloud, his haunted dark eyes still staring at the grave that lay before him, but not really seeing. He knelt on the grass, wet with dew in the fresh spring night, quietly reliving the past. He knew this should have been a happy day for him, and it had been, until the memories of his closest friend had come creeping back. Although, Roy couldn't exactly say he had nobody left. Of course not. He had—
"He would have wanted to be there today, huh?" murmured a soft voice from behind him, a pair of arms discreetly winding themselves round his waist. Roy smiled despite himself, feeling the gentle weight of a head resting on his shoulder.
"Yeah. He would." Roy replied. "He was always telling me to get a wife, and now…" The figure behind him chuckled.
"…And now look at you."
Roy allowed himself a small laugh in reply.
"I wonder what he would think of me now."
"What indeed." The other individual whispered, leaning closer into Roy's back.
There was a long silence, before Roy turned around to face the person behind him. Wide golden eyes stared up at him, filled with devotion, yet within the depths of those eyes lay sadness. Long blonde hair cascaded over bare shoulders, despite the chill of the night. Roy smiled. He's so beautiful.
"Edward."
"Roy…you've been crying." Ed whispered. He reached up and brushed away the ghost of a tear from the corner of Roy's small dark eye. The older alchemist smiled through his tears.
"It's okay, Ed." Roy wrapped his arms around the young man, his misery slowly vanishing as they embraced. "I'm okay."
"Let's go home, Roy." Ed breathed softly into Roy's chest. Roy nodded vaguely, but made no effort to stand up. There was another long silence.
"Roy?"
"I…I love you, Edward."
Do you see now, Maes? I don't need a wife.
"I love you too."
Because I have the best husband anyone could ever ask for.
My beautiful Edward Mustang.
