This, if you haven't gathered from the summary, is based on that extra scene in the manga, after Kyoko makes her sacrifice.

Also, this could be a KyoSaya one-shot if you really wanted, or it could just be friendship. Up to you.

I don't own anything about Puella Magi Madoka Magica, by the way.

It's cold.

It's the first thing that goes through Sakura Kyoko's mind.

It's empty.

So...cold...

She looks around. There's nobody. She can't see anything.

Who am I? What am I doing here...where am I? I can't remember anything...

Then, as if someone jabbed a spear through her heart, her memories return, and she can only think of one thing.

'S...ayaka...?'

It's so lonely.

Miki Sayaka is sitting on the floor, hugging her knees. Thinking about her life. And thinking about what went wrong.

I am such an idiot.

Is there anyone...here? Anyone?

'It...hurts...'

There's a shadow in the distance. It looks like a dot from where she is standing, but it is easily distinguishable among the white background.

Who's...that?

Her voice is dry, and it's painful to talk.

But she won't stop.

'Sayaka...where are you?'

'If you're there...tell me please...'

She tries to stand up, but her body is paralysed. Her tears run down her face, and she hugs herself tighter.

I only wanted to hear Kyousuke's violin...that's all I wanted. So...why?

She turns her head to look at her surroundings for any indication of life in this void.

She sees a red and green dot, growing larger every second.

She can see the dot clearly now. She can see her blue hair and the red ribbon of her uniform.

She runs even faster.

It has to be her!

She can tell who it is now. She wants to turn her head away again. But she can't.

Is that...Kyoko...?

Why is she here?

I don't deserve...any company.

This is my punishment...for being such an idiotic fool.

Finally, the girl catches up. She stands behind the other, who is clearly shocked.

'Yo, Sayaka.'

She sees her former enemy, and she sees her arm reach out to give her...a snack?

'W-why are you here?' She chokes on her own sobs, 'I don't deserve anything.' Leave me alone...

Her smile widens even more. 'It...sucks to be alone, right, Sayaka?'

'I'm...here for you.'

Those four words resound within the blunette's mind, and she turns away for only a second. She realises something.

I'm...not alone anymore.

She grabs her hand, knocking the treat out of it, smiling.

'Is this...what they call...friendship?'

'Ne, Kyoko?'

'Yeah, Sayaka?'

'Can we stay like this, together, forever?'

'What? You really are an idiot.'

'Eh?'

'No one is stopping us here. We're free. No one can judge us, and we can live the lives we could ever want.'

'Good point, though...it's kinda...lonely.'

'It's okay.'

'Huh?'

'We'll be here for each other. No matter how empty it gets. We'll always be here, side by side. Right?'

'So that's it...huh? This warmth...it feels nice...'

So I made another one-shot. You might be confused about the fact I don't mention names very often and also the confusing layout, but I think this way, there's a larger sense of loneliness. At least, that's how I felt writing it. You're free to have your own opinion!

I'm not good with sad fics, but I'm proud of this anyway!
