It was the first night of Hanukkah, and I was at home, alone, in a nice, Christian town. As far as I knew, all other Jews were dead, killed by the ultimate inquisition, an event that had taken place in 2010, and had killed all Jews in the world but myself. I had hid during the inquisition, and was thereby saved. However, I finally settled in a town on the outskirts of Spain, just out of the King and Queen's reach. For this reason, there were no Menorahs to adorn windows, save mine. I sat at my table and said the Blessings over the Hanukkah candles. I then set the lit Menorah in the windowsill, and sat, looking out the window, waiting for a sign. Then, As though in answer to my prayers, a single light appeared among the various Christmas lights of my neighbors. But this light was different. This light was warm, welcoming, and it seemed to be beckoning to me, calling me to it. And so I stood, put on my coat and hat over my kipa and tallis, and forged out into the cold. After a few minutes of searching, I came across a manhole. The cover had light streaming all around it, as though the light were trying to escape. I opened it, and the light hit me full-on. I climbed down the manhole, and, as I neared the source I saw that there was none! A simple, bright glow was coming from the bottom of the ladder, and that was it. After reaching the bottom, I saw that the sewers led in two directions. Coming from one, there was a strong glow, and so I followed that. Upon entering the room, I immediately saw that, suspended in the air, not by string, nor by cable, but by a force unknown to this world, was a great, 8 ft. tall Magen David, or Star of David. Laying on a stone podium directly below the star was a smaller version of it. One foot in diameter, and solid gold, I realized it to be an item of great value. As I lifted and examined it, I noticed something carved on the back, around the border. It read "One of eight, each night of Hanukkah a new clue is revealed. The first clue is: "עַם יִשְׂרָאֵל חַי" this last I knew to be pronounced 'Am Yisrael Chai' which is Hebrew for 'the people of Israel live'.
