The Encounter

Thanks again to all that have reviewed and/or PMed me saying that they will read this as it progresses.

Here it goes:

It is an ordinary day in my ordinary life. Who's life you ask? Mine, Annabelle Robinson of Brooklin, a district in New York City. Today, I am picking up vegetables for my father. He just handed me his wallet and said

"Go on Annabelle and buy us some vegetables for stew tonight"

My mother is sick, so I had to run the errands. My father, Jim Robinson is a middle class lawyer. He stays at home most of time, unless he is in court, that is. Yes, my father stays in his little room of in the corner of the house, filled to the brim with books of all shapes and sizes. My mother works at the factory down the street. I don't know what they make, but I have heard that is kind of shady. Oh well, it puts food no the table and pays the rent, so why should I care?

And now, back to the present. I am walking through a sleazier part of town. Soot and dirt covered the road. Two men with beers in their hand gaze away form their card to look at me. I hurry past. I don't like his part of town. I don't know what it is, maybe it is the cigar smoke drifting form every corner or the occasional yell of a drunk from the many bars on this street, but it makes me nervous. I clutched my dads wallet with all my might. It had all we had in it, all of our money, our cards, everything.

Suddenly, I heard yelling. I lose some grip on the wallet that I was holding. Suddenly, I can't feel it anymore! I feel myself frantically looking for the wallet. Suddenly, I see a man, no boy running through the crowd.

"Hey! Stop him!" I yelled frantically

no one listens. They are all either to drunk or don't pay attention. A man steps in my way. I can't see the pickpocket The man stepped away and I see a boy, about my age holding him by the ear.

I hear

"Please Spot, I didn't do nuttin. Please let me go" the pickpocket said

I step out so they can see me

"No sire Slide, I want you to give the little lady back her wallet." Spot said

Spot jerked away the wallet and handed it to me.

"Sorry about the trouble miss" he said, tipping his cap.

"It's ok, thank you so much. This had everything my family ever had." I said, tucking an unruly strand of auburn hair behind my ear.

"No trouble miss" he said. "But I would be honored if you would buy a pape from me before you leave"

"Sure" I said and handed him a quarter and tucked the newspaper into my basket.

I examined him closely he was about 14 or 15. He had brown hair that framed his face. His eyes were crystal blue.

He was staring back. When I suddenly came into reality, I looked down and hurried away.

The end.
