Chapter One: Cloaked Figures

Author's note: I'm sorry; also I own nothing besides my own original characters, I'm not making any money, though I wish haha

AN2: Also hi yes, I did rewrite this cause I hardcore hated the other and IT'S A NEW YEAR SKEET (I meant to post this in January oof)

Octavia Malfoy stood on Platform 9 ¾ quarters, her mother giving her a tight small hug; the younger blonde would've just preferred to have left their goodbyes at the Manor. It was more comforting there than in public.

Narcissa pulled back and placed a kiss on her forehead. "Remember to listen to your brother and Hades. Stick to them if need be don't-"

"Socialize with anyone that you or father wouldn't approve of; respectful purebloods only- but maybe a half-blood if they're deemed fit. Never ever speak to those outside of Slytherin unless need be…" Octavia trailed off trying to remember anything she might've left out.

"Do well in your classes and stay out of trouble, don't be like your cousin; Draco should've known better than to act like him: reckless." Lucius Malfoy added, his stone face staring down at his oldest daughter, his two youngest trailed behind him; the youngest making a quick break for Narcissa, feeling better in the company of her mother.

The middle daughter snickered. "As if Octavia would do anything to get you mad."

Lucius gave her ankle a quick but harsh tap with his cane that encased his wand. "Little ladies shouldn't speak out of turn, Fawn." He glanced back to the eldest sister. "Malfoys also keep their appearance in check- especially the females. I suggest you keep that hair of yours neat and keep people from staring at your eye; Merlin knows why I didn't fix it when I had the chance." He more so muttered the last part, but she still heard and made sure to cover her right eye.

Personally, Octavia loved it; it was mainly grey like her left eye but a quarter of it was blue, like her mother's. Her hair was the same blonde her father and Draco have, but like her mother's hair, it was down to her waist.

Octavia sometimes found herself envying her sisters' looks; they were almost the spitting image of their mother- skin that was still light, but not pasty, hair that was pale gold and not a shade away from being white, pretty blue eyes, not boring grey.

Octavia treasured anything that made her more like her mother than her father; which is why she so greatly loved her right eye even when her father declared it to be an imperfection.

She watched as Lucius once again left to go over to where her brother and cousin stood; leaving the girls to themselves. Octavia watched as her mother gave her a small smile; trying to reassure her that she was still perfect. She returned the same smile when she felt her youngest sister quickly hug her.

"Don't listen to him; it's part of what makes you, you." The youngest blonde was quiet that it was sometimes hard for the older sister to hear her. Octavia hugged her back and thanked her.

"You'll write won't you?" The youngest asked- voice still barely above a whisper.

"Everyday Lynx; Mother's orders anyway."

Lynx smiled, being the most like their mother it was easy for Octavia to image that this is what Narcissa had looked like at Lynx's age.

Fawn quickly stood next to her twin, gaining both sisters' attention. "Father's calling, better hurry, too. He's growing impatient."

Octavia was about to make a comment about how it wasn't hard to get their father upset but quickly stopped when she saw her mother's glare and walked as fast as she could to the other three members of her family.

Lucius nodded his approval. "Your belongings are on the train and will be there in your dorm-as is that cat of yours; she'll be fine." He waited for her to say something before speaking again. "Severus will be there, any questions you have that cannot be answered by your brother or cousin are to be asked to him; if he cannot answer owl me or your mother." She nodded and waited for him to finish. "Do not disappoint me, Octavia."

"I won't, Sir. Promise."

Lucius nodded in approval again before watching his oldest children get on the scarlet train, as well as his nephew before moving to where his wife and twin daughters stood in the back of the platform.

Her cousin, Hades Lestrange quickly left them to find his year of friends; leaving Draco to care for his younger sister- not that he really cared though, he was excited to have her with him this year. He finally had someone he could really talk to. "Come on, Ava," he called using her nickname, "it's time you get reacquainted with everyone."

Draco grabbed her arm and lead her to the compartment that already contained Vincent Crabbe, Gregory Goyle, and Pansy Parkinson. Draco sat her down with her between him and Pansy.

Pansy gave a smug smile. "Are you really old enough for Hogwarts now, Octavia? Seems like just yesterday you were still having bouts of accidental magic."

Octavia glared at her. "I'm only a year younger than you; if I wasn't born in October or past September '81; I would be just a year below you. Besides I'm sure if your temperament gets the best of you, you'll still have accidental magic."

"Like you seem to be getting now?"

"Leave her be; Parkinson- if you weren't the first girl I saw I never would've asked you to sit with us if you were going to be like this." Draco replied as if he were bored.

Octavia rolled her eyes but stayed quiet, looking back to Pansy she sighed. "Sorry about him, he takes his orders from Father to seriously. Rather a bore if you ask me."

Draco glared at her but kept any comments to himself. The train had just started moving a few minutes ago and feeling confident enough the older blond stood, reaching up to a shelf he pulled down Octavia's bag that contained her new school robes. "Parkinson, be a dear and take my annoying sister to an empty compartment or restroom to change into her school robes. I still don't see why mother insisted she wore dress robes to board a filthy train."

"Malfoys; especially the females, must keep up with their appearance. Father's words- not mine." The younger blonde smiled at him. "The curse of being a girl."

"Ah, incorrect Miss Malfoy," Pansy interrupted, looping their arms together, "a blessing and a curse- how else are we to drive the boys mad?"

Draco once again glared at the dark-haired girl but didn't have a chance to lecture her about how his sister is far too young to worry about the opposite sex as both girls laughed and quickly made their exit.

It took the girls thirty minutes to find a mostly empty compartment, kicking a couple of other first years out; Pansy stood out guarding the door while Octavia quickly changed, making sure everything was straight and neat she rejoined the older girl; going back to where they'd left Draco and his bodyguards. Upon arrival, Octavia's arm was immediately grabbed by her brother.

His own silver eyes were filled mischief, a smirk on his lips. "I think it's time you're introduced to Potter, don't you."

Octavia smirked back. "I'm to stay strictly out of trouble, remember? If you play nice; I'll be glad to meet him."

Draco looked offended. "I'm always nice, it's Potter and his friends who need to be more friendly."

She hummed in reply. "Alright, show me."

The Malfoy heir's smirk came back, bigger than last time and lead her, and Crabbe and Goyle around until he found his rival's compartment, throwing the door open he pulled his sister next to him. "This," he gestured towards her, "is my little sister, Octavia." He looked over at a redhead: Ron Weasley. "She's going to be a Slytherin of course- best of her year too."

Octavia smirked and looking around the compartment- now ignoring her brother and the redhead. She noticed a girl with mahogany skin holding an orange cat whose face looked as if it was thrown face-first into a wall right after birth. Concluding it must be the same Hermione Granger she hears Draco complain so much about. Her eyes trailed over to the other boy; Potter. His golden skin made his green eyes seem brighter; Octavia hated to admit it, but she found it rather charming.

She was just about to go back to looking around when a sudden noise made her jump back, knocking into her brother.

"Who's that?" Draco questioned, backing up himself.

"New teacher," Potter replied, getting up himself- either to fight the blond boy or hold the redhead back who must've gotten up at some point when she wasn't looking. "What were you saying, Malfoy?"

Octavia looked up at her brother to see his eyes grow dark and narrow; grabbing her arm he turned back to the two bigger boys behind them. "C'mon."

Once they left and were heading back to their own compartment, the girl looked at her brother. "What happened?"

The brother glanced at his sister and refrained from giving her a lecture about not listening to her surroundings. "I was just trying to have a civil conversation when the Weasel got up to attack me." He decided to use her mistake to cover up the real intention he had in that conversation.

He was pleased when she seemed to buy it; reaching their compartment he opened the door, allowing her to go in first. Parkinson smiled at placed the other girl next to her again. "Have fun?" She asked.

Octavia shrugged. "They were with a new professor… Also, what's wrong with Granger's cat? He seems like his face got smashed at birth, poor thing."

Pansy looked at her. "Must be new; I've never seen her with a cat… She's a mudblood, remember? They, muggles, tortured our kind and they say violence starts with animals; maybe that's what happened with the cat."

Octavia nodded in reply, still trying to find other reasons to how the cat got its face so messed up when the conversation turned from cats to how the summer holidays have been and plans for the new school year when the train began to slow down to a complete stop.

"There's no way we're here already..." Pansy trailed off; she was trying to look at the windows but it was now pitch black, soon the whole train went dark.

Draco quickly lit his wand with a quiet "Lumos," trying to get a peak out in the corridor. "Just wait till I tell Father about this-" he was cut off when Hades entered.

He smirked at Octavia. "No worries, cousin this doesn't happen all the time. One for dramatics aren't you?"

Octavia was about to retort when the compartment got dangerously cold; Draco and Hades must have noticed this as well as they each sat down, wrapping their cloaks around them tighter. The door opened again but instead of a person entering, a creature, tall and wrapped in a torn, nasty cloak greeted them. Octavia tried to see its face but the hood was hiding whatever was under it. It was when she thought she could never feel joy again and the rotting hand reached out, as if to grab someone or something, only to retreat when it felt stares, did she finally realize what this thing was and who it was looking for.

Hades seemed to figure it out to, he shouted at the dementor, telling it that Black wasn't here- to go somewhere else. It listened and left the compartment leaving the teens and girl alone; Draco silently handed out pieces of some of their mother's homemade chocolate treats to everyone.

After a while, the train started up again and with it the warmth- but their compartment was still cold; no one was willing to break the silence. It felt like forever but soon the train finally reached its destination.

End AN: Again I'm sorry for posting this so late oof, the second one should be up too- more on that.
