'Silver, never bothered me, I actually always had something of a fondness
for the color but now. When I think of it there seems to be a red tint to
my thoughts. I wonder if that's how Darien thinks of it. He never tells
me and I understand he feels as though he needs to protect me but he can't.
Not him, not Claire, not anyone at the agency. I may not be exactly an
adult or very mature yet but I can't be shielded from something inside of
me. Though I have trouble admitting to myself this is where it all comes
from.
That day when it happened he ran away from me, only I could really appreciate what strength it took to run from me. I know he didn't want to hurt me or for me to understand but I do. My mind always drifts back to the day he made his promise to protect me then he did what must've felt like to him breaking it. Giving me that stuff that seems now like the most important stuff in the world.'
"She starts her diary entries with quotes." I said in a whisper that was inaudible to me.
"Darien what are you doing?"
"Nothing Rae." I shut the book quickly and put it back down on the table, "Ready yet?"
Stepping into view, "How do I look?"
The silver dress was beautiful but shocking after what I had just read, "Let's go to work. Bobby and Alex are already in position."
"Are you okay, dork?"
"You're a very sweet kid. Let's go."
"I just need to grab my bag." Rachel said simply.
I started to leave turning back just in time to coat the book in quicksilver then placing it into a discrete spot grab her bag off as shelf, "Okay I'll go start the car."
"I'm coming."
There's this old saying, "Appearances can be deceiving." Well, from my experience Rachel is or well. can be the personification of that quote. Most of the time she seems so together, not perfect but just on top of stuff as opposed to when she loses it. Cause when the "lid gets blown off of her id" just watch out. Side note: The only thing more frightening is when we both lose it simultaneously.
"So are you having fun?" I asked sarcastically as we dodged yet another pair of really boring people, "Do you think this whole spy thing is that big of a deal?"
"Yeah sorta considering he might work for Arnaud and at least this doesn't involve crawling through a dumpster." Rae laughed sarcastically. I knew she'd prefer to be doing the same thing I prefer to be doing.
I looked over to see two pieces of chrysalis scum swank in. (now all together) "Aw. Crap." We make a quick turn over to our rendezvous point just left of these really awesome quiche thingies.
Something in her eyes told me there was something wrong, and no they weren't red, just something looked wrong. How do I explain this? It was the look people get when they're trying desperately to hide that they're in pain.
"Rae, You okay?" eloquent, right?
"Fine just shooting pains in the back of my head, nothing new."
"You don't need-"
"It's not even two segments."
