"... Skank bitch! What does Cullen see in you? You're so ugly, he must be blind!" Lauren's taunts rang in my ears. I knew I shouldn't let her get to me but she was just so horrible.

"Leave her the hell alone!" a voice behind me snarled.

To say I was shocked was an understatement. I had thought Edward would come to my rescue when he got to the canteen or, if she arrived first, maybe Alice but never...

"What did you say Blondie?"

"You heard me," Rosalie growled. "Leave her the hell alone!"

"It's none of your business what I say to bitch Bella. I never said anything against you so just shove off." Lauren replied acidly.

"If you insult a member of my family you insult my whole family so it is my business and I told you to Leave. Her. Alone."

Rosalie's glare was impossible for even Lauren to stay under for long so she turned and flounced off.

After a few seconds silence I managed to awkwardly stutter out, "Um, thanks Rosalie."

She turned to face me, "Seriously, you have to learn to stick up for yourself. It's pathetic."

Saying this she walked away but, despite her harsh words, I could have sworn I saw the ghost of a smile on her lips. I myself couldn't help but grin broadly as I went to meet Edward, who was just walking in. We certainly weren't friends, barely even acquaintances, but maybe Rosalie didn't hate me quite so much as I thought.
