"Strenght to Live"
Warning: Spoilers for Albert's backstory ("Tears of Steel" is required)
Words: 455
Characters: Albert Heinrich/004, Hilda
Rating: R (lime)
The autumn rain falls over Berlin, touching every inch of it with its cold, liquid caress. From the Gate of Brandenburg to the suburbia - including the wall of concrete and wires that divides the city (no, the country's heart) in two.
Not only the rain, but also the cold wind that slips in thanks to the splits in the walls doesn't let him sleep. For worse, the big tree in front of the room shakes and hits the window with its branches. Such an annoying noise...
But even now, as he lies on bed with her sleeping in his arms, the young blond man knows there's more than just rain and wind behind his inability to sleep.
In their own ways, they tried to be happy. She never whined and he tried to smile to her as much as possible - but at times, he couldn't. Those weren't good times in East Berlin. Getting a job isn't easy for anybody, and when you're finally hired, that mean long hours behind the wheel, lots of traveling in and out of the main cities, and a feeling of dullness that would stick to his body and soul.
He's still young; he has time and energy to keep on fighting. He wants to believe it. But instead of finding his last supplies of strength, he find the old truck with its discolorated exterior, the small apartment with its humidity-stained walls, and the despair that might take over him...
All of this will disappear if his plan works.
She moves in her sleep, sighs and snuggles closer to his bare chest. He's distracted from his pessimism and tenderly looks at the woman who shares his bittersweet life. Minutes ago she was moaning and biting her lips trying not to scream as they made love, her whole body shaking as he held her tightly and kissed her lips, her neck, her breasts...
Now, she's asleep. Present, warm, naked under the old bedclothes just like him. And the man remembers not only the recently shared moments of intimate passion, but the real reason why he keep on fighting.
There's still a part of him that wants to believe everything will change and along with his beloved, he'll be able to build a happy life for him, her, and their future family. And that's the reason why, in few days, the old truck will take them to the other side of the Wall. Where they can be happy and free.
And with a deep sigh, Albert Heinrich holds Hilda closer to his naked body and tries to sleep again. He must rest in the following nights...
Soon, their new life will start.
