Chapter One
"Did you love her?"
"No," Alex looked up into those capturing brown eyes, which in brighter lighting would turn blue, she took her soft hand into her own, stronger, harder, longer fingered one. "But I love you." Alex rocked back slightly as she delivered the usual line, she wasn't used to feeling vulnerable when she said this.
"You do?" Piper leaned in, enthralled. Alex felt a distant prick of guilt.
"I don't say that to everyone," Alex said taking back her composure with the confident rhythm of her voice. "You have to say it back."
"I love you too."
Alex smiled in satisfaction. She was never wrong about her girls, she picked them well. But as she felt Piper's body so close to her own, there seemed to be this warmth, or maybe not just heat, more like light, radiating off of her, that was different from the rest. Alex tried to ignore it. Push it down into her subconscious more. After all, she had a job to do, and her own subjects weren't going to get in the way of it.
Piper gazed at Alex. She searched her face as if it were an elaborate landscape and there were many details for her to see in the gentle wrinkles of Alex's skin.
Alex found herself staring into Piper's eyes, there was something drawing about them, like she might never be able to look away, quickly, Alex leaned in and kissed Piper, as a way of breaking that connection. She wouldn't want her eyes to get stuck permanently to Piper's, that could be dangerous, and require an extremely painful surgery to unglue.
The kiss was like a cord being plugged into an outlet, and Alex felt the electricity travel though her body.
They pulled back so they could stare into each other's eyes, Piper looked like she could spend an eternity staring into Alex's eyes. Alex realized with a jolt that she felt that way about Piper.
Alex kissed her again, desperately claiming Piper's cheek, her jawline, her lips, her neck. She was hers, she was in control. But it was different again, different than those other girls. Because she wasn't entirely in control. It was like Piper's very skin was a magnet forcing her lips to come closer, sunlight that she had to get close to in order to escape the cold that seemed to engulf her the minute she pulled away even slightly. After having so much warmth, without it, the rest of the world felt endlessly dark and empty and cold.
"I love you," Alex gasped.
"I know," Piper said softly after kissing Alex's cheek.
Alex knew, that she really meant it. Something seemed to crumble inside of her. She had fallen in love.
Author's Note: All reviews are welcome. I wrote this short fic because I was really interested in how Alex fell in love and how Piper was different from all of those other girls. :)
