This drabble is a response to Tierfal's challenge to write a drabble without using the word "and". So, here t'is. (This is implying that the two of them have been sleeping together for a while.)

Light woke up in the middle of the night to find L with his face smushed into his hair.

"What are you doing?"

"Mhhh," The detective nuzzled a few ginger strands. "Smelling you."

Light was confused. "Why?"

Ryuuzaki rested his chin against Light's cheek. "Light-kun has a very pleasant scent," He sniffed again. "It's musky, but it tickles my nose."

"That's my cologne," grimaced Light. "But why would you do something so ridiculous?"

Ryuuzaki sat up, a bit guarded. "Experts say that smell is one of the most primal of the five senses. It's one of the things that connects us to ancient times, when humans still lived in the wild. Smells help us connect to the world."

He leaned a bit closer to Light. "Smells can tell us when a thing is safe, when something is good for us…" Light leaned in expectantly.

He reached back. "Or, it can tell us when we're in danger as well."

Light lowered his eyes. "So then, which one am I?" he asked quietly.

L was quiet for a moment.

"I don't know."
