What would he do?
That certainly was the question he should be thinking about. For, really, there was a chance that Haurhi would pick him. He had to be prepared for that situation. He still had a chance to win her affections but it would certainly be an uphill climb.
Honestly, that girl was a little too indifferent for her own good. But he supposed that was one thing he liked about her. Her bluntness, her intelligence, her tendency to figure things out that didn't directly relate to her. Add that to the fact that she was undeniably cute. Even the ladies thought so, but, then again, the ladies did think that Haruhi was a boy.
But thoughts eventually ended up in a circle. And he really should think about it. Unfortunately, he wasn't exactly known for his coherent grasp on reality. He had to have his feelings blatantly pointed out for him to realize them. If the situation did not fall in his favour, he would most likely throw a tantrum. Then again, he had become a bit more mature.
He could hold in his temper a little better, he didn't think of people as toys or play things (though pranks and general mischief-making were still great ways to kill boredom) and he even helped a certain idiot lord in realizing his own feelings (an act which he later regretted though an actual battle of men could finally begin). His world had clearly expanded as well. He found genuine happiness in being in love that much too practical girl. That truly was the best thing for him.
Despite all the positive things that had happened to him through his membership in the Host Club, however, his chances still weren't very good. He had been rejected once already and that had pained him. But he never gave up without a fight. And fight he would.
He would come up with any possible way for Haruhi to fall for him. The battle would be bloody (though he would most likely act it out in an all too dramatic way) and the 'war' would only be over when she herself spoke her true feelings. That wasn't likely to happen any time soon. If and when that occurred would have to be out of view from the prying eyes of their fellow club members.
But a Plan B was a necessity for any challenge.
And he didn't have one.
Underhanded tricks wouldn't work this time. They surely would only work against him and he wasn't about to comprise his position as one of Haruhi's unlikely suitors. He, on the other hand, could comprise his all on his own. His sheer stupidity could handle that well enough.
Which was why he felt so confident. Why he didn't think about what he would do if he was rejected once more.
And really, he should think about it. It would be the smart thing to do.
But then, Hikaru wasn't known for being the smart one.
A/N: When I started writing this, I'd initially wanted it to be unclear as to who it actually was. Then I realized that it would be much too short to be called a story and had to expand it. And it's still rather short. Reading it over, I think it's not really in Hikaru's POV but more like a general analyise of a few things. And I'm sure you can figured out who he is if you've been keeping up with the manga. Anyway, please enjoy.
