Flowers
By: Katie Todd
"Another bouquet that's what four since Monday, whoever this guy is he's desperate Kate, and whipped." Tony says as he circles Kate's desk.
Kate smiles and shoos him away as she pulls the card from the bouquet, extracts the yellow cardstock from its matching envelope, and opens it.
Katie,
I miss the sight of saw dust in your hair. One more day…
Kate's mouth turns up in a smile. Each day since Jet left to go to his conference on Sunday there'd been a bouquet and a card. Monday's had been the most simplistic, twenty-four long pink and red roses. The Martha's Garden card had been light pink and read:
Katie,
I miss your big brown eyes. Five more days…
Tuesdays had been long orchids with a big white bow. The thin white ribbon tied card had read:
Katie,
I miss the smell of peppermint on your breath. Four more days…
Wednesday s had been the biggest; an outrageous bouquet of daisies and wild flowers with a thin purple ribbon tying the card to the tall tinted glass vase. He had written:
Katie,
I miss the taste of cream on your lips. Three more days…
Thursday s was a collection of different white flowers; white roses, babies breath, daisies, and orchids, in a long white vase. The white ribbon tied card had read:
Katie,
I miss your laugh. Two more days…
He'd promised her he'd be home by dinner tomorrow even if he had to walk home. Kate fiddles with the thin gold bands on her right hand, placed there to divert suspension. They'd been married four months…the team still didn't officially know. Kate was sure Abby had probably already guessed, but Tony didn't seem to have any suspicions and McGee was clueless to the matter.
Kate fingered one of the pale yellow daffodils in this arrangement and sighed, one more day…., she moved the flowers to rest on the shelf behind her desk.
One more day…
A/N: Love it…hate it…let me know!!!
