Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Pain.
Journey 1: Names.
Slouched over the white porcelain sink was me and my battered body. My breath ragged, my mouth and nose was dripping with blood, my heart was beating way too fast for me to survive, my phone, taking away from me by my parents.
Got to get to a hospital, I need to survive, but I can't. No phone and no friends to come help me, and even if I could get a call to the hospital, I wouldn't make it. It was too late.
*THUD*
Was this how it was going to end? Battered and bloodied with no hope of survival? Heh. Always thought that I had hope in my life. Wanted to become a musician and make a band that played a mix of classical and electronic music. But it seemed like every opportunity I got to leap for the stars, fate seemed hellbent on making me the stray dog that just barked. No guts to leap, no guts to chase, just lost and barking, no bite, all bark and no bite.
Well… goodbye world… goodbye, nobody.
(Hours later)
"Oi! Oi! Wake up!"
Who is that?
"Oi! Come on, wake up!"
Is that you God?
"Come on, I know you're alive! Just wake up, please!"
Alive? The hell you talking about? I died.
"*SOB* P-p-please w-w-wake up! They'll shoot you if you don't!"
I bolted up at the word 'shoot' and tried to stand up, but kneeled back down due to the pain in my leg.
"Shit!" I cursed silently.
"Finally you're awake."
I turned to the female voice and saw a small fox like creature with yellowish beige coat with red coming out of her ears.
"Who are you?" I questioned.
She swallows before answering, "My name's Katherine Brittany." She introduced with a small smile that disappeared in the blink of an eye, "But that doesn't matter now, if you don't prove you're not an enemy now, then we're both dead." She explained.
I looked at her with a misunderstanding look, "What do you mean enemy?! I'm supposed to be dead!" I shouted.
She shook her head, "Look, I know it's confusing, but the quicker you convinced those guys," She said as I followed her pointing finger and found it was pointing in the direction of tanks, guns and swords all pointing towards us, "That you're not a threat, they'll wipe us out!" She finished her sentenced.
Just then, what looked like the commander stood up, he was a large imposing wolf like creature with red fur on the back and white fur in the front, spoke up, "Now that I have your undivided attention you beast, I Commander Roosevelt have three questions for you; who are you?! What are you?! And what are your intentions?!" He asked.
I took sometime to come to my senses, but I took a deep breath and introduced myself, but before I did, Kate whispered in my ear, "Say you're an Eevee." She instructed.
I looked at her with an uncertain look in my eyes, but the gleam in hers told me to trust her with her choice, and so I started, "My name is Mark Faust, I am an Eevee, and I have no clear intentions!" I shouted as loud as I could.
Commander Roosevelt didn't seem too convinced though, "He's clearly lying! There's no way an Eevee can survive a fall from the sky like that!" He shouted, "Men, load the cannon and fire at once!" He demanded.
Katherine seemed surprised and stood in front of me, and just as she did, I realized that she was wearing a similar uniform that the soldiers were wearing, "Please Commander Roosevelt, don't shoot, I can feel it, Mark isn't lying, you gotta believe me!" She pleaded with the commander.
"Sir, we may want to consider her plea." One of the soldiers stood by us, "I've been training her along with the other 143th corps trainees, and she has real good judge of character." He informed.
"Shut up! She can easily be manipulated by the enemy, just like him!" Commander Roosevelt shouted, "We have to obliterate them immediately!" He declared.
"Sir, the cannon is loaded!" The men at the cannon signaled.
Commander Roosevelt nodded, "Fire on my command!" He commanded, raising his hand.
Although she wasn't facing me, I could just feel the pure fear radiating off her like the heat from the sun, and she felt mine.
All fell silent as the Commander's hand came raining down, Katherine's pleas for a chance to let me live.
I had no idea what was going on, but for some reason, I was alive, and without even getting any questions, I was gonna die. Just like that.
I clenched my teeth and slammed my teeth shut, not wanting to see my inevitable fate.
An inevitable fate that hasn't came.
"You may be big, but you've always been as fragile as a newborn baby." A new voice spoke.
I opened my eyes to be met with the sight of Commander Roosevelt being held back by a bigger, much more intimidating foe, this one had a jackal like face with appendages coming from his head, two on both sides, a black line running down his face and deep red eyes.
"Can't you see the magnificent confidence in her eyes." He said, directing it towards Katherine, "I think her plea is something worth listening to." He admitted before waving his hand that held the commander, "Everyone calm down, I am on the case." He signaled, walking towards us.
Once in front of us, he looked at me, "You there, you said your name was Mark Faust, right?" He asked.
I nodded, "Yes sir…?" I hoped that he got the hint.
"High Captain Byxis." He introduced, "You two, stand up, it looks like you both can use a bite to eat." He demanded.
And he was right, the moment we got to the food, I was wolfing it down without the shame of the people looking at me.
"So, you say that you were a human who died after being beaten by a group of students." Captain Byxis summarize my story.
I nodded before swallowing my food, "Yes, that's exactly what happened." I confirmed.
He nodded, "Well, since we don't know what you can really do, we're going to have you under strict watch by our top soldiers." He said, "But I am not without mercy, as it seems you've grown attached to Miss Katherine, so I will allow you two to spend time with her when she's done with training." He added.
I nodded, "Seems fair." I agreed.
He nods, "Alright then, let's get started." He declares.
