Clock Tower: The First Fear (story)
Author's Note: Someone else here on did something exactly like this, and that person is who I got the idea from. However, they used a certain ending to the game, so I have decided to write my own version, with a different ending. Also, I am planning to do this for Clock Tower for the PSX. Yuki
Prologue
(Another author's note: From here until the part where they're going to the mansion, I took a little artistic license, as the game doesn't detail the beginning much.)
"Jennifer! Jennifer" Ann's voice rang throughout the upstairs hall of the Granite Orphanage, one September morning. Ann, a fourteen-year-old girl with brown hair and a yellow dress, threw open the door to Jennifer Simpson's room.
Jennifer was also a fourteen-year-old girl; she had black hair, and wore a black dress with white sleeves. She looked up from her book. "What is it, Ann? Why are you so excited?"
"We're being adopted!" Ann replied excitedly. "You, me, Laura, and Lotte! By a Mr. Barrows! A woman named Mary is here to pick us up!"
"Really? Ann, that's great!" exclaimed Jennifer. She paused. "But wait. Does this Mr. Barrows have enough room for us all?"
Ann nodded. "You know that mansion on that hill up north? It's the Barrows Mansion!"
Jennifer's eyes widened. "Ann, you're not kidding!"
"No! We need to pack up and go!"
Jennifer smiled and closed her book.
Jennifer and the others walked up the dirt path to the Barrows Mansion. She was astonished at the size of it: it was two stories, with many elaborate windows, and both an east and west wing; atop the east wing was a clock tower…
"Laura, hurry up!" Lotte exclaimed, snapping Jennifer back to reality. "We want to be there before sunset!"
Jennifer tugged on Mary's sleeve; Mary was a regal-looking woman, with brownish-blond hair tied in a tight bun, and she wore a black skirt with a brown blouse. "Ms. Mary?" asked Jennifer.
"Yes?"
"From now on, what kind of place will we be living in?"
Mary laughed. "That's the fifth time you've asked! Don't worry, it's a very nice place. We're almost there. See?" She pointed to the manor; it looked even bigger up close.
Inside the mansion, the girls gaped. "What a huge place…," commented Laura.
"Yeah!" agreed Ann. "The main hall's gigantic!"
"I've got to go get Mr. Barrows," informed Mary, "Everyone wait here."
The girls sat in several armchairs, with the exception of Lotte, who leaned against the wall. After several minutes, Jennifer got up and began pacing the room. "Hey, Ann…," she began.
"You want to know what kind of guy Mr. Barrows is, right?" replied Ann.
"Yeah." Ann laughed.
Jennifer approached Laura. "What is it…?" asked Laura.
"Is something wrong?" asked Jennifer, having a feeling that the question wasn't meant for her.
"This house makes me uneasy…" Jennifer shook her head.
"I doubt I'll ever get used to this place," Lotte said suddenly.
"What do you mean?" asked Jennifer.
"Heh, Lotte's paranoid," teased Ann.
"…Mary… she's taking a long time. Should I go find her?" asked Lotte.
Jennifer shook her head. "No, I'll go look for her." She entered a hallway, through the door Mary had used to leave…
The hallway was dark. Jennifer took a few nervous steps in; a gust of wind blew open the curtains over a nearby window. She shut it, and as she did, she heard a scream. "Wha-! The main hall!" she gasped.
Jennifer threw open the door to the main hall. "Girls…?" No answer; the hall was dark. "C'mon, this isn't funny…"
There was no reply…
