AN: I feel as though I should be remorseful for starting so many chapter ones... but everything can be placed squarely at the foot of my pesky muse.

Prologue
One day, in a universe and a planet not unlike this one, there were three individuals who so loved each other that when they died, the Powers That Be bound their souls together so that they may be guaranteed to meet in the next life.
The love in question was not truly profound, though it was.
Nor was it supposed to be everlasting, but it was.
To those who looked from the outside, the regard the brothers held for each other and their sister, a regard she returned, would have been seen as disturbed at best, sickeningly incestuous at worst. They cared nothing for that; for the longest time all that filled their worlds were each other. This persisted to their deaths, where they were to be processed to their next incarnations as is the nature of things.
They felt fear for the first time as they felt themselves drift apart from each other.

Not like this...
So intense was this passion to remainforeverneverlettinggoever that their attempts to go against the natural current caught the attention of the Power minding their particular stream. On a whim, (s)he/it set chains between them; in all their lives to come, they would be forever born in the same era, the same world. Live to the exact same length as the others, to die and be reborn again simultaneously.
When the souls became docile again, the Power was satisfied and returned to his/her/its work.
