To be with you
"Beautiful, isn't it?"
Surprised, I glance over at my childhood friend. Luna and I sat on top of a grassy hill, overlooking the vast valley below. The blazing sun was beginning to lower behind the majestic mountains in the distance. Streaks of crimson spread across the orange-sky.
As usual, Luna had her lips curved into a gentle smile, as she tilted her head up towards the clouds. However, I could sense something was bothering her. I could tell by the pain within her soft blue eyes. Drawing her knees up to her chest, Luna rested her chin on them, her smile fading away.
"Alex?" Her voice changed, almost as if it was trembling. "What will become of us?"
A bit taken back by her question, I looked down, feeling the remaining warmth of the sun upon my face. "What do you mean?"
"I am.the goddess Althena." Luna said out loud, closing her eyes. "I must live on.but I don't want to do that if it means living on without you, long after your death."
Luna shook her head. "I.I can't imagine how lonely it would be. I don't know what to do, Alex."
Hesitantly, she rests her head on my shoulder. Placing my arm around her, I can't help but feel the same way. "The choice you choose doesn't matter to me. As long as you follow what you believe is right, I'll be there by your side."
Lifting her head, Luna looks at me with a serious expression on her face. "They say I must make a choice: live on for eternity beyond the limit of humans beings or become a normal human." Then she added, smiling, once again. "I think I now know what I want."
After a moment of silence, I open my mouth to speak, but something catches Luna's attention. Standing up, her face lights up with excitement and happiness, as she points towards the horizon. Squinting, I am finally able to see what lies ahead. Riding on the back of Nall, everyone - Jessica, Kyle, Mia, and Nash waves at us.
Grabbing a hold of my hand, Luna turns to face me, much more pleased than before. "This is all I want," she said simply, hope shining on her eyes. "Its all I could ever ask for. To be with you and everyone else, even in death..I am willing to do such a thing, rather than continue living long after your deaths."
"Luna."
As we embrace, this time, for the first time since we reunited after defeating Ghaleon.never before have I felt so relieved to have the one I love the most, back in my arms once again.
