Chapter one-A visit

In the Late summer, almost as summer's end, Dipper sits in his room, thinking about all that has happened. Ever since his uncle Ford came out of the portal Stan had created, his thoughts were jumbled. There were no answers to his questions, at least for now. Ever since Dipper and Ford had played the game of Dungeons, Dungeons, And More Dungeons, and when Ford shared his secret, they hadn't spoken since. Mabel and Stan were out somewhere in the town, and had left Dipper to himself. It was a rainy day, the worst of the summer, when Dipper had heard a knock on the door.

He sighed. "SOOS, GET THE DOOR!" But Soos wasn't working today, he had taken the day off to visit Melony. "Soos!" No answer. There was another knock on the door. "UHHH!" Dipper got up from his bed and went to answer the door.

When he answered the door, he couldn't believe his eyes. Standing in front of him, drenched in rain, his school friend Mandy.

"Hi... Stan Pines? My name is Mandy Oakbrook, I just arrived in this town two hours ago to study for a research project. My grandparents live here, and I was just wondering-"

"Mandy?"

She looked up. "Di- Dipper?"

There was a long, deep silence that fell in between them. Mandy was a girl that Dipper had gone to school with ever since kindergarten. They were both highly intelligent, where Dipper excelled in math, Mandy in english. Because of their smarts, (the kids in their school were very ignorant) they had bonded and became good friends over the years. She had short, blue hair and wore nothing really but a black sweatshirt most of the time. But even before Wendy, Dipper always had a huge crush on his the school year, he spent most of his time thinking about her, wondering if she would ever like him back, or already did. And now she was right here, at the doorstep of the mystery shack. He couldn't make sense of what was happening just now.

"Mandy! MM-Mandy! Hi! Oh my god, I can't believe- why are you- gravity falls- do you-"

"Dipper!"

She ran inside, dripping wet, and hugged him tightly.

"Dipper! I knew you were going away for the summer, but gravity falls?! I'm so happy to see you!"

Dipper blushes. "Small world, huh?"

They break apart. "I have so many questions to ask you! come in!"

Mandy looks around, amazed by the sights before her. Not that she didn't know anything about the mystery shack. She was totally aware it was a tourist trap, and wasn't a sight to see. But the thing about Mandy Oakbrook was she hadn't experienced many things outside her hometown. The girl had dreamed of traveling the world, meeting people, and new experiences. So even the mystery shack appeared to a girl like her, as, well, interesting.

Mandy grabbed Dipper's hand. "Dipper, this is the mystery shack. I've heard about this place. People around here say something happened here over the past few days, something strange. There's rumors someone came out of a portal, down in your basement. Is that... true?"

Dipper looked frantic. "Look, Mandy, I can't tell you about that right now. My sister and uncle don't even know your here right now, and I could get in big trouble if I told you anything. Let's just focus what's happening right now, ok?" he sighed. "My best friend shows up in this tiny town where's spending my summer. She has nowhere to go, shows up at the mystery shack, and now wants to know about-"

"Dipper-" Mandy hold his hand tight. "Who is that?"

Appearing from the basement below, Ford emerges, apparently very angry. "Dipper," he says, "Who is THIS?"
