Beck watched with surprise as Jade and Tori ran off the stage. He wanted to run after her, and almost did, but caught himself. He wasn't dating her anymore. He couldn't run after her and ask if she was okay. He couldn't. He turned his head towards two guys cheering and clapping hysterically. The Black Box theatre emptied as the audience left. He walked towards the two. "What are you doing here? The play has ended." Beck asked. He realized it came out harsher than he meant it. The guys grinned and answered, "We wanted to see the two chicks that played the astronaut and his wife." Beck narrowed his eyes. He didn't like the way these two talked about Tori and his jade.
Wait, no, he couldn't say that anymore. Jade was single now, not his. Not his to protect, to love, and to care for. Beck snapped himself out of it. Not now. "Why?" he asked, as if the question in itself was ridiculous. "We saw them at Nozu; they said they were on a date or something. They sang a song for us." The guy with the blonde hair rattled off enthusiastically. Jade and Tori? A song? Beck laughed to himself. Yeah right. Jade would never let that happen. "Watch." the one with the brown hair instructed with a smirk, and shoved a phone towards Beck. Beck took the thing in his hands and pressed the play button. He saw how Jade and Tori walked towards the stage.
Tori started. Her voice was really nice, as usual, but when Jade hit her notes Beck lost all logical thought. All he could concentrate on was the girl with black hair and black clothing that was weaving her way around the stage, hitting her notes perfectly. Tori and Jade's voices mingled together perfectly, but Beck only paid attention to Jade. The song finished. "Thanks man" he said, and handed the phone back to the blonde. "No charge." he replied.
"Sooo, where are they?" the brown haired guy asked. Beck almost answered. He stopped himself. If he told these two clowns where Jade was, he would surely lose her; and that was the very last thing he wanted. "They're probably home by now" he lied, "The play was a lot of hard work, and I bet you they're tired. But you can come back tomorrow" He answered. He hoped they would take the lie. Tonight was the only night they performed. If the two came back tomorrow, and found the theatre closed, maybe they would leave Jade and Tori alone. He hoped for the best.
"Sure man," The blonde one said, "We'll come back tomorrow. It is late, and I'm getting hungry. Let's go home." For a desperate dimwit the kid actually seemed pretty smart. Beck tried to hide the smile that slid over his face. "Thanks for coming though." he said, and stood in the door way watching the two retreat to their separate cars, before leaving the parking lot and Beck alone with his thoughts.
Jade had been amazing on the track. Pain rose within him. He wanted her back. He didn't want to live another day without her by his side. He wondered if she still loved him. He bet she didn't. She was as tough as she ever was, and this timeBbeck couldn't see through her tough exterior. Sighing, he turned the lights out as Sikowitz had instructed. He walked towards his car and climbed in. He drove home, and entered his RV. He plopped down on his bed and stared at the ceiling. jade's voice drove him to sleep that night.
