A/N: Hi guys! So this is ANOTHER entry to the February JoGeNuDoNaRo Contest, ( the prompt is "Free"). This one is about… well, see if you can guess! But, anyway, this one was a little more poetic, which I haven't really done before. Hope you like it!
Boundless
I am free. No one controls me, not the Rogue, not the Provost, not the King. I can do whatever I want and no one will ever catch me. I am free.
I will soar above the clouds and deep below the ground. I will aid when aid is needed and defend when defense is scarce.
I have no name, no home, no placement in any realm. I come and go, I leave and return, I am unbound and uncontained.
At times you may see me at someone's side, present at an important time, flitting about and making myself useful, trying to keep out of boredom.
I am an important figure, and many think they own me, or have some sort of control over my being, but they don't seem to understand the power I hold.
If I fancied it, I could win a war with a swish of my tail, throw the immortals to the kraken with a blink of my eye… of course that would take all the fun out of human happenings and might get me in trouble with the gods. Besides, I like my companions too much to take away their well-deserved glory.
And they really are fairly nice companions, even though they are fools and often need my help.
Ha! They think they have some control over me, shutting me up in hot rooms when things are going on outside. They think that I am some constellation, some cluster of stars! I have seen the stars, and they are no great wonder.
They insult me, saying my partners are "Fishpuppies", or "small", or thinking that they are anything but great. They are foolish if they think that a purple-eyed cat would accompany anyone not destined for greatness.
But if they are great, then why would they need my aid in the first place, you ask? Because they are just as foolish as all of the human race. They fall in love with men and try to ignore the prospect of such an emotion. They get their ribs crack when no one knows where they are. They get curses thrown at them… The list could go on and on. I am there to guide them and save them from their foolishness.
Of course, there is always the day when I must depart after having judged them at a level to go on without me. I always go heroically, of course, and in a natural fashion so as not to cause suspicion.
Not that I would consider staying forever, though, and that for two reasons. Firstly, one must learn to be on their own to mature. And, secondly, it's much more fun to see the climax from the Divine Realms than to experience it. It's far too emotional for a free creature like me.
