When Everyone Works Together
Ethel pulled Sybil aside in the corridor needing to talk to her, she asked if she could meet her after lessons in her room and Sybil agreed, curiously. Something was going on, Ethel was really excited about something.
After her lessons Sybil went to Ethel's room and knocked and walked in once Ethel replied. As soon as the door closed Ethel spoke.
"I know how we can give Esmerelda her powers back!" she said causing Sybil to look at her confused.
"I found this spell, it is a really old spell and it lets you extract a small amount of your magic, so I was thinking if I do this spell and you do too then Esmie can have powers" Ethel said beaming.
"But how much is a small amount? And if it is a small amount will it even be worth doing it for Esmerelda?" Sybil asked thinking if her powers barely worked there was no point in her having them if she was still not able to really use them.
"Weak powers are better than none, come on Sybil, it is her birthday next week and it will be the perfect present" Ethel told her and Sybil smiled. They had to try it even if it turned out to be hopeless.
The next day Ethel and Sybil were stood in the younger girls bedroom and both were nervous. They loved Esmerelda and she was worth losing some of their powers for but they also knew this could go really wrong and they could lose their whole powers and then all three of them would be in the same boat, Ethel was going first, it was partially her fault Esmerelda had lost her powers in he first place and she wanted Sybil to keep hers.
Ethel lifted her hand and closed her eyes uttering a quick spell. For a moment nothing much happened but then Ethel felt a spark coming out of her chest and she knew it had worked. Ethel looked at her bookshelf and cast a spell and let out a breath when it worked. She still had powers.
"Thank Merlin you have powers" Sybil said as she stood up and did the spell herself just as Beatrice and Clarice walked in, it was their bedroom after all.
"What are you doing?" Clarice asked seeing Sybil about to cast a spell. Ethel sighed but explained knowing she had to say something, when she had finished the two friends looked at each other before Beatrice spoke.
"I want to volunteer mine too" she told the sisters.
"As do I" Clarice said both deciding on it in that moment.
"We can't let you do that" Sybil told her friends not wanting them caught up in this. This was their mess to sort not Beatrice's or Clarice's.
"Esmerelda was nice to me even after I insulted her so I want to help" Clarice replied. "Now what is the spell?" she asked the girls who told her, they were not forcing her into it.
Neither sister thought that much into it until the next day Felicity and Gloria asked If they could help, they had overheard Bea talking to Clarice, both girls gratefully donated their powers and before long it had gotten around the school and they had various students from different years giving up some of their powers selflessly. Suddenly Ada walked in and the two girls panicked knowing she would tell them off.
"I have heard what is happening here" Ada told them and Ethel started to speak.
"We re not forcing anyone into this, so you can't really stop us" Ethel said even though she could the woman shook her head and smiled.
"I will make a donation" Ada said and Ethel and Sybil looked at each other in shock.
"Why miss?" Sybil asked.
"Because it is partially my fault what happened and I can think of no-one else who deserves powers more than Esmerelda" Ada told them and Ethel smiled.
"Thank you miss" Both girls said in unison.
By the end they had a lot of power stored, probably around enough for Esmerelda to even be able to study again, they were just about to go and mirror Esmerelda when Mildred turned up.
"If you are planning on telling Miss Cackle don't bother, she knows" Ethel said rudely knowing the girl was probably going to try stick her nose in. Mildred smiled slightly.
"Actually I came to help" Mildred told Ethel who stared at her untrusting.
"What is the catch?" she asked Mildred knowing there must be something. She barely knew Esmerelda.
"Your sister was really nice to me at selection day even though I kept asking annoying questions that everyone already knew the answers too, she is a good person so I want to help" Mildred explained and Sybil smiled.
"Trust her Ethel" she told her and Ethel nodded and let Mildred proceed. After she had done the spell she didn't know what to say and Mildred cut in.
"You don't need to thank me, just give Esmerelda our love" Mildred said with a huge smile as she left the room.
The two sisters went and mirrored their sister and lied to her telling her Ethel was injured, they had to think of one way to get her there.
It did not take long for Esmie to arrive, out of breath from running and when she saw Ethel she freaked out on her.
"Ethieā¦.are you okay?" Esmerelda asked in a right panic over her precious sisters health. Ethel could not help it, she giggled.
"I am fine I lied I am not injured" Ethel told her sister who stared at her angrily.
"Why would you lie about that? I was so worried" Esmerelda told her sisters not finding it funny and Sybil replied.
"Sorry we had to think of a way to get you to come" Sybil explained and Esmie narrowed her eyes confused at that.
"Why what is going on?" she asked confused and worried. Something must be off for them to trick her into coming here.
"Follow us and we will show you" Ethel said unable to stop herself smiling as she tugged on Esmerelda's arm. The older blonde followed them until they arrived in Ethel's room.
Ethel closed the door and told her to sit. Esmie obeyed even if she was highly confused about why she was sitting.
"Give me your hand" Ethel told her sister who only starred at her in amazement but shrugged, it was only Ethel, she trusted her. Ethel took out a small bottle from her pocket and then took her sisters hand.
"Actually you better stand up" Ethel told her sister so Esmerelda obeyed still confused as to what was going on.
"I Ethel Hallow hereby give these witching powers to the one with who I stand" Ethel said beaming as she watched the ray of light hit Esmerelda.
"No Ethel, I don't want your powers" Esmerelda told her thinking Ethel had just donated hers.
"Oh they aren't mine, there is this spell and it allows you to extract just a little part of your powers so Sybil and I both did it and we were going to just have it as us two but then loads of people wanted to donate them" Ethel explained.
"Yes Esmie, even Mildred Hubble and Miss Cackle!" Sybil told her seeing her sisters eyes widen in amazement.
"Hopefully you haven't inherited Mildred's inability to do spells" Ethel said laughing. "Go on do something, try them" Ethel told her.
Esmerelda looked at her sisters confused but then pointed her hand at the books on Ethel's table preparing herself for when nothing happened but then the most amazing thing happened, the book hovered.
"Yes it worked" Sybil said jumping slightly in happiness.
"I don't know how strong they are though, they won't be as good as your old powers" Ethel warned her knowing she probably wasn't even as powerful as Sybil.
Esmerelda felt overwhelmed then. She could not believe her classmates had being so generous, it was the most difficult things to give up your powers and she could not believe a lot of them had done it, most of them hardly knew her. She let the book drop back onto the desk not knowing if she should cry or laugh so she hugged both her sisters one in each arm as she beamed.
"You are wrong, they are perfect" Esmerelda told them as the three girls hugged each other. Esmerelda was eternally grateful to everyone and promised to thank them all later.
