I don't own The Big Bang Theory or their characters. I only own Scott.
It has been two months since Leonard had left Pasadena. Two months since he left his friends and his job. It has been two months since he left the love of his life in a car at the airport with a kiss. It has been two months since he started to wish to be back at his apartment with his nagging roommate.
In his room, which he shared with three other people, there was two bunk beds and a small closet. The bed has a small curtain that Leonard always closed at night. Inside there was a wall Leonard had filled with pictures. There were pictures of him and Raj in Switzerland when Penny and Sheldon were too sick to go; a picture of him and Amy before they left to a wedding taken by Penny; a picture of the gang at Howard and Bernadette's wedding; and a picture of him and Penny. Every night before falling asleep he looked at that picture and smiled. He would quietly whisper the amount of time left for him to see her again. He would then cross the day at the calendar next to him and close his eyes.
One day there was a party in the boat. Leonard just wanted to go to bed but one of his roommates didn't want to go alone. They were both a bit miserable in the boat, being away for their families. Most people on the boat only saw work in front of them and didn't have much friends.
But that guy had a wife and child waiting for him back in Boston. Leonard knew people from Boston and had been there a lot over the years so they kept talking about Boston and their friends and family. They became good friends.
So when that guy asked Leonard to go with him, he just went. He could use a drink to forget the fact that he hadn't seen Penny for two months.
He had way too many and felt like he was going to throw up. His friend was already in bed so Leonard went alone. There was where he found Mandy Chow.
He quickly ran to the bathroom and threw up. After that, he doesn't remember anything else.
He woke up with a disgusting taste in his mouth. He quickly realized it was a mixture of vomit and smoke. Wondering why it tasted like smoke he remembered seeing Mandy. Looking at the picture on the wall he threw his head on the pillow, with his heart beating so fast it seemed like it was going to come out of his chest.
Leonard's friend, Scott Murphy, didn't have a high alcohol tolerance. So after the first drink he told Leonard he was going to bed so he could actually do some work tomorrow without a big hangover. Leonard told him he was staying a little longer, to see if he could talk to the captain of the boat about giving him a sailor's cap since he promised Sheldon he would bring one to him. Scott laughed and left to his room. He fell asleep quickly, like he always did. But unlike most nights, he got up in the middle of the night to pee.
He looked at the clock, and it read 3:46 AM. Looking around the room, the three people he had shared the room with weren't in bed. Getting up he went to the bathroom.
He opened the door and heard a lot of noise. Closing his eyes and leaning on the door he felt and headache coming, like it happened every time he woke up in the middle of the night. Knowing he wasn't going fall asleep anytime soon when he came back from the bathroom he took the box with his cigarettes and went to the bathroom. There was where he saw Leonard throwing up. He also saw Mandy Chow with Dustin Jenkins, the captain of the boat, making out but he looked the other way and opened the bathroom door. There it was the person that quickly became his friend. Smiling at him he kneeled next to Leonard and looked at him. Leonard raised his head and smiled.
"I drank too much."
"That's an understatement" Scott said, smiling. "Come on, let's get up some fresh air and water."
They both got up slowly and walked to the room. There Scoot took two jackets and a bottle of water. He handed Leonard a jacket and the bottle, and they both walked to the deck. After drinking a little bit of water and sitting quietly watching the stars like Scott used to watch with his wife and daughter. He then looked at Leonard and took the box of cigarettes and a lighter from his pocket.
"Here" He offered Leonard
"I don't smoke"
"One won't hurt."
"I have asthma"
"Leonard, it's one. It won't kill you. After all the drinks you had, you won't live until you're eighty! What's the point of living forever if everyone else doesn't?"
Leonard looked at him, thinking of whatever happened to Scott for him to have such good advices like that all the time. He looked at the cigarette and shrugged his shoulders.
"You're right! One won't hurt."
It was one of the worst and best sensations of the world for Leonard. Worst because the taste of smoke was really bad but the best sensation due to the fact that it was the wrong thing to do. It made Leonard feel like a badass.
The problem was that the cigarette left the taste of smoke in his mouth, so the next morning, Leonard didn't remember the cigarette he shared with Scott. He thought he had made out with Mandy, since she was known to be a smoker.
And considering the drinks that Mandy had drunk the night before, by morning she didn't remember a thing. But she did remember seeing Leonard. So, when years later Leonard talked to her about the kiss, she thought that was what actually happened.
Scott hadn't thought much of that night in the boat. Once the expedition was over he and Leonard wanted to keep in touch. But it didn't happen.
Scott was in his laboratory in Massachusetts when the phone rang. It was Leonard. Scott smiled when he saw the number. He answered it and on the other side was the voice of someone he missed a lot.
"Hey! It's Leonard. Leonard Hofstadter. I don't know if you remember me, we both went to an expedition to the North Sea a couple of years ago."
"I remember you, Leonard. So, what's up?"
"Well," Leonard started "I was here at my lab working and I got bored and started to go through papers on my desk. A paper fell and your number was on it. Decided to call and see what you were up to. See if we could catch up. Are you busy?"
"Not really. I can do this some other time. But, I was thinking maybe we could meet sometime? It's better than talk through the phone."
"That seems like a cool idea. But… where do you want to do that?"
"What about in Pasadena. My wife is going to her parents to have dinner and I don't need a conversation with my father-in-law." They both laughed.
"Okay. I think that coming to Los Angeles to escape the in laws is a bit too much. Don't you?"
"Not really. What about in two days we do that?"
"Sure! Can't wait!"
"Me too. We have a lot to talk about. Bye"
"Bye." And with that, Leonard hang up.
It was a Thursday night when Scott got to Pasadena. He had Leonard's address and GPS so he was fine. He found the building and got in thanks to a short blonde whose name, he found out, was Bernadette.
"So… what are you doing in this building?"
"I'm seeing an old friend."
"Haven't seen him in a long time?"
"Yep. A few years."
The conversation ended there, both didn't have anything else to say to each other.
Bernadette stopped in front of the apartment 4A.
"This is me."
Scott looked at the paper.
2311 North Los Robles Avenue, apartment 4A
'Weird. She doesn't seem like Leonard's girlfriend. I thought she was taller.'
Bernadette saw the look on his face and decided to help him out.
"Hey. What's the apartment you are looking for?"
"It says here its 2311 North Los Robles Avenue, apartment 4A. It's this one, right?"
"Yes. I'm sorry, but who are you looking for?"
"Dr. Leonard Hofstadter."
"He lives here. I came here to have dinner with everyone else. Come on"
They both got in and found the gang all sitting in their places. Even though Sheldon was the one with a special spot, over the years they all got their own spots. Leonard looks at Scott and smiles.
"Hey! You came!" Leonard got up and hugged him. Everyone looked at Leonard waiting for him to explain who he was. "We were both at the North Sea expedition."
When Leonard mentioned that expedition Penny lost all words. She hated that trip since that was the trip where Leonard cheated on her. The good thing was that Scott had spoken to some people before he left Boston and they told him about Leonard thinking he had kissed Mandy. Scott looked at Penny and Leonard and smiled.
"I think I have some good news for the both of you."
They all looked at him.
"What are you talking about?" Leonard asked.
"Remember that night you got drunk?" Leonard nodded. "Well, it wasn't you who kissed Mandy. It was Dustin. All your lips touched that night was alcohol, vomit and a cigarette I gave you." Scott smiled. "There were a lot of bad choices that night, but kissing that slut Mandy wasn't one of them"
"What do you mean 'slut'?" Raj asks
"Are you kidding me? Mandy kissed everyone. Every night there was some else new. That night, it was Dustin's turn. I have no idea of what you drank that night but you were walking and talking funny. I laughed a lot at you that night. Do you remember anything?"
Leonard thought for a second. Memories were a little fuzzy and it had so long ago.
"I remember wanting to go to bed but you wanted a drink. Then I stayed and I needed to throw up." Leonard stopped and thought a little bit more" Yeah, that's it. That's all I remember."
Scott smiled.
"Well, is everything okay with it now?"
"Actually" Penny started. Everyone looked at her "I have a question. How was Leonard on the boat? He never talks about it."
And with that, Scott sat next to Raj on the ground, took a slice of pizza and started to talk about the adventures they had on the boat.
When the night was over everyone went to their respective houses. But they all had a similar conversation.
Sheldon and Amy went across the hall. They got ready to bed and kissed each other good night. They each closed their eyes. But Amy's eyes opened when she realized there was light. She thought it was weird that the sun was already up. She had just closed her eyes. She turned to Sheldon and realized he was the one that turned the light on.
"Sheldon? What's wrong?"
Sheldon looked at her and realized that maybe he was going to sound ridiculous. But he knew he couldn't back down now. So he just spoke
"Promise you are never cheating."
Those words hit Amy strong.
"Sheldon…"
"Don't. Let me finish. I thought Leonard was someone who would never do something like that. Especially to Penny. But then he said he kissed Mandy Chow. I didn't want to believe him. So now, that the truth is out, I think that drinking is bad. And makes you do bad things. Or, like it happened to Leonard, nothing happens but we think it did. And that can ruin people's life. So, promise that you will never cheat or drink by yourself. Please."
Amy looked at her fiancé and kissed him
"I promise. If you promise the same thing."
Sheldon nodded and kissed her.
Howard and Bernadette went to their house, which was so silent. Stuart was visiting his family and Halley was in Bernadette's parents. They both got ready to bed and decided to watch TV before closing their eyes.
Bernadette looks at her husband. Even though she says things about leaving him or that it wouldn't take a lot of time to move on from him, she loved him – and Halley – more than life itself. When Debbie died, she realized that at any moment Howard could leave her too. Without having the opportunity to come back to her. Or to say goodbye.
"Howie?"
Howard looks at her. He smiles. Even after all this years she was still beautiful when she was without make up, in her pajamas and messed up hair.
"Yes?"
"Promise me something?"
"Sure. What is it?"
"Always going to be together? Like, never going to trade me for a younger woman or something like that?"
"What as all of this coming from?"
"Nowhere. Just promise?"
"Bernie. Look at me." He takes his hand to her face and pushes it so that they are looking at each other's eyes. "If anything, I think you are leaving me for someone taller and younger. So, I promise to never trade you for someone else. Regardless of the age. Okay?"
They kissed each other, turned the TV off and slept holding each other, with the promise to never hold someone else while the other was alive.
Leonard and Penny were watching TV. Leonard was all snuggled on his chair with his eyes closed. Penny was watching TV and glancing at him. She thought of all he had been through after that night. She was right to be mad, they both knew that, but she knew he had beaten himself up with what happened even after telling her the truth.
She went to him and put her hand on his face. She smiled at his rested face. She loved him, but at night when he wasn't worried with something and was just sleeping, he looked like an angel.
"Leonard, I know you aren't listening to me right now. Thank you. For everything. If it wasn't for you I'd be in Nebraska with some jerk. I'm glad you fought for me. You bring out the best in me and I'm glad you went to talk to me the day I moved to the building. I'm sorry for everything stupid I'm going to say to you and already said and all the fights we had and are going to have. I'm so lucky to have you in my life. I love you"
She smiled and held his hand until he woke up a couple of minutes later. He then picked her up and got her in bed. He kissed her and simply
"I love you too." Smiling, he quickly fell asleep.
Raj was on the car listening to the radio. He kept thinking of the girl he had just met. He pulled over and took the phone number out of his pocket.
"Hey, it's Raj. I'm calling you because I had the strangest night today and I kept thinking that maybe you want to meet up? I know it's soon, we met just last night, but I don't want to waste any time I have left thinking whether I should do something or if I did that. Are you busy right now? Maybe we could go have a drink?"
"Sure. Why not? And, by the way, I think this was the perfect time to call me" says the girl Raj met yesterday outside the pharmacy, Isabella. At that moment she was sitting at her apartment with her phone on her left end and a paper on the right one. The paper had the number of her ex, one that she needed to forget about. When Raj called her she was going to dial his number. When Raj hang up she look at the paper and threw it to her fireplace.
They both got the fresh start they needed.
Read&Review
Yeah, I know, I could continue the Raj part. But no. I'm not continuing this. It's a one-shot. Sorry. Needed to take the story out of my mind. Also, I needed to write this so it would make more sense what the writers made Leonard seem like in the show. Seriously? Leonard is not a cheater. That's not the character he is. So, to the ones that share the same vision as me, here it is. Hope you all like it.
I even made a part about Howardette – a couple that doesn't have a lot of fanfiction written about them;
Shamy – that has a lot of fans;
Lenny – My favorite couple on the show that is so bad written;
and Raj.
Hopefully all couples were well written!
