The Day the Magic Died

A little songfic about the night Dumbledore died. I do not own Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling does. The original name of this song and the songwriter is American Pie by Don McLean. Enjoy!

A long, long, time ago,

On the lightning-struck tower,

Dumbledore had been attacked.

And I knew if I had a chance,

I could make those Death Eaters dance,

And, maybe, they'd be gone for a while.

Harry knew he could've saved Dumbledore that day, but since he was frozen, all he did that day was stand there and watch that sad incident, and even if he had come close to defeating the murderer of Dumbledore, he still didn't do anyone any good.

But that one night made me shiver,

With every spell that I delivered.

Dark Mark in the air,

The owls didn't deliver mail.

The Dark Mark was what caused Harry and Dumbledore to fly up to the tower, therefore causing Dumbledore to be cornered by the Death Eaters, and killed. It was all a trap, and if Harry didn't think about it as a lure, he never would've flown up there and got Dumbledore trapped against the balcony.

I can't remember if I cried,

When I heard about when his sister died,

But something touched me deep inside,

The day the magic died.

When he heard about the death of Ariana Dumbledore, Harry felt some sad feeling deep inside him, thinking that everyone in Dumbledore's family had the misfortune or possibility of death.

So bye, bye, oh the thestrals will fly,

The hippogriffs will holler

And the phoenix will cry.

That good old bird had sung in whispers and rhymes,

Singin', "this will be the day that I die."

"This will be the day that I die."

It was true that he had seen death before, and so he could see thestrals. But Harry was sure that he would see thestrals the best now. It was true the phoenix lamented some time near the great headmaster's death.

Did you write the book of spells,

Did you have the nerve to tell,

The story of Dumbledore's time?

Did you cherish Gryffindor's sword?

Were you alive during the war?

And did you show me your memory hoard?

Harry had so many great memories with Dumbledore, like looking at actual memories of Dumbledore. He remembered seeing the sword of Gryffindor in the headmaster's room. He felt anger towards Rita Skeeter for writing bad things about Dumbledore sometimes.

Well, I knew him from deep within,

And even when I was dim,

He helped me with my blues.

Man, I miss him, it's true.

Harry missed Dumbledore. Not very much though, but enough times to count as missing him. He helped Harry when he was down in the dumps.

I was a teenager with no luck,

With a weird scar and my hair a muck,

But I knew I really was stuck,

The day, the magic died.

Dumbledore had helped him through the years, from when he was 11 to 16, even though he was so odd.

I started singin'

"Bye, bye, oh the thestrals will fly,

The hippogriffs will holler

And the phoenix will cry,

That good old bird had sung in whispers and rhymes

Singin' "this will be the day that I die,"

"This will be the day that I die."
