"John!" I heard my sister, Martha, groan from behind me. I turned around to see her leaning against the door frame, an annoyed expression painted on her freckled face. "Dad says you need to move your butt or we'll be late for school! Again," she reminded me, rubbing her temples when she saw I was having trouble with my purple and yellow silk tie. "let me do that," she mumbled, doing it up quickly. We rushed down the two flights of stairs, me grabbing my oversized hoodie and bag on the way, and slipped into our father's car. "John! I told you not to make me wait!" My father scolded, bringing his hand off the steering wheel. Preparing myself for impact, I shut my eyes tightly and whispered a pitiful 'sorry' before I felt a cold hand scrape across my face, turning my cheek red as it began to bruise immediately. Sighing, my father began the journey to our high school. My sister was singing softly to herself, and down to my father's twisted beliefs, she wouldn't get hit because she was female. Instead, I, as a male and the oldest child in the house, get it all thrown onto me. I'm happy though, one reason being that my siblings, who I love dearly, aren't getting hurt by father and, despite how much I dislike it, school. I have a good group of friends who help me and are aware of my father's abusive nature and help me through it. Along with that, there's a teacher who's like a second, better father to me and we've been looking at perhaps adoption. The school has excellent classes and wonderful extra curriculum activities that mean I have a little more time where my heart is than my home. Home isn't really the right word. My mother died from illness a few months after giving birth to my youngest brother and ever since my father has been abusing me.

I was pulled out of my thoughts by the car coming to a stop outside our school gates. I didn't hesitate to get out and run to the tree in the courtyard I always stayed by. Why was I here and not in class? I had the first period free. Smiling as I saw my friends already there, I took my place down between Lafayette and Alexander. "Oh, mon Dieu! John! Did he hit you again!?" Laf panicked immediately, noticing my bruised cheek. "It was my fault for not being fast enough," I mumbled, taking off my backpack and pulling my sketchbook out. I felt an arm wrap around my shoulder and a pair around my waist. Alexander smiled up at me, him being the one with his arms around my waist "I love you two," "I love you too Lexi and you Laffy," "I love you both my Peaches," Laffy pulled us close to him comfortingly. I heard a sigh from our friend, Peggy, "I wish I wasn't so gay... like at least Seabunny's straight or pan or something..." "I'm poly, cis girls, cis guys, non-binary and genderfluid," Samuel explained, smiling softly at Peggy with a small glint of sadness in his eyes. I saw Eliza, who was wearing a baby blue skirt and tie, come over with Angelica, whose hips were swaying with confidence and who was in a taffy pink skirt and tie. "Hey Pegs, the head needs you to show around a new girl," Eliza explained, slipping next to Samuel while Angelica slipped in next to Thomas. Peggy stood up, her pineapple skirt swaying in the winter breeze and headed to the office with her chocolate and russet curls bouncing. We went to our classes with Peggy coming around with a new girl, bringing her to classes, sitting with her at lunch etc. I think we're gonna get a new member of the Revolutionary set. This should be fun.
