Author's Notes: This is kind of a thing I kind of wanted to do for a while now. Enjoy!

I'm mostly writing this fanfiction to test my own abilities, also, I can't get this idea out of my head. Please leave reviews if you want me to continue this story! And if you think this story (and anything else like the cover) is stupid, bad, or anything negative in particular, well, leave a review anyway, because I appreciate any critiques I can get!

Disclaimer: I don't own Pokémon, nor anything affiliated with it.
This may bear some resemblance with Stephen King's "The Mist" but I assure you that it is in no way related.

The year is 2029.

The human race has started to advance significantly in technology, recent discoveries including holographic computers that save electricity to cures for a multitude of ailments that were once thought to be incurable.

The agency that harbors the smart minds behind all of these is known as the ARD, the Agency for Research and Discovery. It was originally a range of privately funded institutes all over the country, but was combined and placed under one agency under the new regime of the Central Government.

Many experimental projects were performed to achieve these advancements; creating a huge wave of controversy along with it. Rumors of human experimentation and inhumane weapons research spread and brought down the reputation of the ARD. It was a common sight to see rallies circling the routes to research facilities and protestors running in front of armored trucks belonging to the Agency to block them.

The newly instated Central Government funded them nonetheless, and the Agency decided to cut all communications with the media to prevent any information from leaking out to the public, and all facilities were moved to classified locations. This shrouded the Agency's reputation in a mysterious vibe, which lead the media to seek answers from the Central Government. They would be left unanswered, the government stating that they didn't control the Agency.

On March 25th, 2026, an unidentified group attacked the Institute's main research and management center situated in ⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛, also known as Sector Alpha. This attack resulted in a multitude of civilian and staff casualties, costed billions of dollars in damages, and incited mass panic. The surrounding area had to be placed in a state of emergency, the local authorities attempting to keep all media out of the area. All Agency staff had to be audited, since the center's location was classified. The only way for an outside group to know the location of the main facility was to have a contact on the inside.

The group was never caught, and only two staff members who had confessed to associating with them had been detained. So, the Central Government created a small, private security division for the Agency. They would be either handpicked elite soldiers from the main armed forces, or volunteers who went through three phases of vigorous physical and mental training. They all took a solemn vow to never discuss with the public about the Agency, covering it up as a simple peacekeeping operation.

They would be known as the Special Security Operations Division, characterized by their white uniforms, black glasses, and shoulder patches that would distinguish where each security officer was stationed. Such patches included ones labeled "Operation Caduceus" for security officers stationed in the medical research facility, coded as Sector Delta, "Operation Shield" for officers stationed in the strategic and capital defense facility, coded as Sector Foxtrot, and "Operation Discovery" for officers stationed in the aeronautics and space travel facility, coded as Sector Echo. They would be called operations to assist in deciphering individual orders for each sector and to further hide it as peacekeeping operations in different countries.

However, with some groundbreaking discoveries in recent years, and with more funding from the Central Government, the Agency started planning to establish the newest research facility.

It would be coded Sector Sierra, the research facility aimed towards the goal of researching the possible phenomenon of the multiverse, with researchers dedicated to creating machines that could open portals to other universes.

The Agency regarded this as an extremely important facility, as a result it would be situated in an extremely remote location, far away from civilization. It ended up being hidden amongst mountain ridges along the northern part of ⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛.

Not only that, only the top brass would discuss the construction of the facility in clandestine meetings, so not even the top staff members would know of the existence of Sector Sierra.

When construction was done, the Agency had to create multiple teams for the facility, but they had to be ones that were trusted. They handpicked the best researchers from other facilities, engineers and mechanics had to go through rough exercises, and miscellaneous staff members had to be screened thoroughly.

Then came the security team. The top brass and the main commanding officer for the security reserves went in person to each facility, auditing and reviewing each of the personnel's records, and handpicked the best security guards for Sector Sierra.

Those guards would have a complete change from the rest of the security division; instead of three phases, there would be five to six, more courses which included martial arts, extreme physical conditioning exercises, tactics to reduce the effects of psychological trauma and even covert and stealth operations. The top brass believed that these were needed in case of a dimensional rift, where the small group had to be sent in to close it.

They also had different uniforms, now wearing dark camouflaged uniforms and experimental tactical vests, a helmet fitted with a tinted visor and the most striking feature of all, modified M40 Field Protective gas masks, fitted with red holographic lenses, used to improve detection and eyesight. It had a white lens that changed, depending on the location of the iris, so to help light up and automatically highlight any potential hostile. They also changed shape depending on the visible parts of the sclera, which helped to convey emotion. It wasn't really intended, but nobody minded.

They looked more like futuristic soldiers than security guards, but all of the equipment was necessary for their protection. They also came equipped with modified assault rifles from the firearms institute. Not that they really needed it, anyway, they could easily disarm an two-hundred pound man and have him restrained against the floor in only ten to fifteen seconds, thanks to the excessive combat and martial arts training they went through.

And of course, they wouldn't be part of the SSOD without their shoulder patch. Their particular insignia was one of a man on horseback, presumably riding a lightning bolt. On top of it, two words would be inscribed onto the patch.

"Operation: Arrowhead."
