She's used to monsters, accustomed to fighting for her life, but Demons, Vampires, and all sorts of monsters, even the Boogeyman she imagined as a kid, attacking her simultaneously is too much for even her skilled Slayerness. Her stake's broken; she has no other weapons and no friends left to help her fight. They swoop in for the kill. She screams; no sound emits.
Buffy's eyes snap open. Her heart's still pounding as she slips out and pads to her window. She gazes out at the day, wishing she could have sweet dreams for once but knowing they'll never return.
Morning light cascades her windowsill. Golden rays seem mocking with their perfect beauty wherein, it would seem to most, no evil, could hide. It's Saturday, too; Buffy knows most people are having a blast with friends, enjoying California's sun and surf.
She glowers at the daylight, then starts to turn away, but stops as something new on her window draws her attention. Her love's been here while she slept and left her a heart drawn into the window with the words Sweet Dreams. Buffy actually smiles. Maybe her dreams will change after all, she thinks and gladly returns to bed.
