New York City Street: Nick Fury calls the team together after a fairly minor mission.

"Team, I have news for you." Director Fury waits a couple of seconds for the teenagers to gather around him.

Spiderman says "Sam gets a new bucket?"

"Stow it" Fury cuts in before Nova can respond "and code names only in the field. Spider you know that. The news is that you're getting a new teammate."

Nova grins "You're replacing Spider-Man? Sorry Web head, but I'm not really surprised you didn't cut it."

"Nobody is getting replaced." Fury says. ""Here comes our new recruit now."

A girl a couple inches than Ava walks toward them with Avenger Hawkeye behind her. She's wearing gloves, a black and grey long sleeve top and pants with a black mask that leaves her eyes and below her chin exposed. A short blond ponytail sticks out the bottom of her mask's back. She seems at least slightly nervous.

Fury addresses the team

"This is Vagabond, she has some real world experience though not as much as Spiderman. She has also received some mentoring from an experienced hero" Hawkeye gives a slight nod and fury continues "nut not the SHIELD training you have been receiving."

Fury turns to Vagabond "Pay attention, work hard and you'll have passed Spiderman's training in no time."

_Vagabond POV_

Crap, I'm grinning. Ok, I've got to put my poker face on. I give the Director a small nod.

"OK, I'll give you two minutes then we head to the Helicarrier." Fury announces.

I tell the rest of the team "I'll be right back." Then I turn and walk back to Hawkeye.

I look up at him "Think they'll like me?" I realize I'm squirming a little and try to make myself be still.

Clint looks down at me and smiles. "You're going to do great Em. And yes, I'm sure they'll like you when they get to know you. Just give it time."

I don't feel as comforted as he'd probably hoped I'd be but I just say "Ok. Thanks." I gotta get one more hug before I go. I step forward and give him a hug, he hugs me back and I feel some better.

We release the hug and he says "Bye sis" and I give him a little wave before I turn and head back to my new teammates/total strangers.

"This is our ride."

Fury motions to a quinjet transport that the other are already inside and strapping into their sets. I hurry in and sit in an empty seat next to the big guy, Power Man and across from the only other girl on the team, White Tiger.

"So how do you know Hawkeye?" Power Man ask.

"I met him on patrol not long after I got started. I saw 5 guys attacking some guy outside the lab where the guy worked and I tried to stop them. Hawkeye saw it happening and well, at first he just watched and I didn't know he was there."

Now I have to tell them the part that makes me look like an idiot, great. "I uh, had lost track of one of the crooks. Hawkeye got him while he was sneaking up on me."

I look at their faces but I can't tell much about what they're thinking behind the mask.

"After that he started teaching me a little then we really got to be friends and he really started mentoring me. He's kinda like a big brother to me now."

Nova responds first. "So if he likes you so much why did he dump you off on Fury?"

"Sam! Don't be a jerk." Tiger snaps.

I answer "Hawkeye thought I could learn more this way. He said SHIELD was better at training and could help me use my ability. He's not trying to get rid of me."

Spider-Man in a happy voice tells me "Ignore him. The rest of us do."

"Relax everybody, it was a joke." Nova responds.

I hear him but I can't stop staring out the window. Wow that's THE Helacarrier.

I hear Power Man's voice. "Yeah, it's pretty impressive but you'll think of is as home away from home soon."

I turn to look at the team again. "Thanks Power Man."

"Call me Luke, Luke Cage." He starts pointing to the other team members as he tell me their names.

"That's Ava." She wave. The others nod when their name is called.

"He's Sam, that's Danny and Webhead's real name is Peter."

"I'm Emily. Nice to meet you."

Luke turns to me and ask "You mentioned having an ability, what can you do?"

"I can make boxes. I call them extra dimensional boxes or shadow boxes."

I open one of my two standby boxes opening up at shoulder height. They seem curiously at the box then I reach in knowing that from where they're standing it looks like my hand and forearm seem to disappear. Then I pull out a bottled water.

Sam starts laughing, Luke seems amused but doesn't laugh. Ava looks unimpressed. I can't tell what Spider-Man's response is through his mask but he says "That's interesting." He doesn't sound impressed.

Nova ask me "So, are you supposed to be on the team or are you our caterer?"

Ava cuts her eyes at him "Sam stop it."

Then she looks at me. "Emily, your ability doesn't seem really practical in a fight."

I take a few steps away from everybody and tell Sam "Shoot me with your energy beams."

Everyone is surprised so I prompt him a little more. "Come on, you don't have to use full power. Just enough to knock me down."

"Ok" Sam responds and shoots an energy blast at my chest.

As soon as the energy starts to leave his hands I open a box facing toward him to block the energy bolts. Nova flies to my left to get a clear shot around the box as I open a six foot tall box facing me and I hop into it. To Sam and the others it looks like I've disappeared but if he comes around the corner he'll see me. I hope this works.

Sam flies passed the box I'm standing is and sees me but doesn't see the 2 inch deep box I just opened in his path. I hope he wasn't going fast enough to get injured. He hits the floor, I step down opening another box to block his line of sight and open my other standby box and grab the tazer pistol that's sitting on top of my civilian clothes.

He gets to his feet but I'm around the boxes and have the tazer pointed at him before he can do anything. I smile and say "Got you."
