ONE SHOT dribble based around the idea of Taylor Swift's White Horse. I suggest you take a look at the lyrics to understand the story properly. .

Disclaimer: I don't own The Mentalist or White Horse.

Jane had gone too far this time and Lisbon had had enough of his innocent angelic smiles. For so long she had always overlooked his mischief and had made excuses for him to people but this time it was too much. She had believed him when he said that, for her, he'd stop being so extreme in his ploys, because he loved her.

How stupid could I be? I should have known he'd go back to his old ways. Old habits die hard, I guess. Lisbon was pacing back and forth across her office, finally realising that Patrick Jane was exactly the man she had always thought he was deep down. She'd been pretending to herself that he'd changed for her, pretending because for a while at least, they were good together, and it felt good. But she knew now that she wasn't a Princess who got to be scooped up by Jane and carried up the stairwell in an incredibly cheesy but romantic way. Her life was never going to be a fairy tale.

It suddenly dawned on her how naive she had been to believe that he could change. She knew that the man was fifty shades of screwed up, he was bound to screw up at some point, and with Jane it was never going to be something simple or something easily forgivable.

They never really stood any chance after what they had both been through.

No matter how many times her came to her to apologise, no matter how handsome he is , how charming or how bright his smile is, how she could get lost in his eyes, she knew now that she and Jane just weren't meant for each other. It was too difficult to be in love with him. She deserved someone she could love easily and fearlessly. There was no way that would ever happen with Patrick Jane, it was too late now for Prince Charming, too late for his White Horse.

AN: As much as I love Jane and Lisbon together (or the idea of it) sometimes I can't help but think he'd do something stupid and screw it up, even after Red John is dead/locked up.
