Raindrops are pounding hard against the window pane, drifting there because of the heavy wind. It seems like the weather wants to adjust to the mood, although it´s only afternoon outside it´s nearly complete dark, no light manages to break through the deep black clouds. The streets are empty, nobody wants to go outside during this storm. And there is this one woman who never wants to go anywhere again, because the only one that has lightened up her cold life has been taken away from her.
Only a shadow in the darkness of her apartment, so close to the wall as if she wants to disappear in it. In the light of a bolt you can see everything clear for a short moment, only a glimpse. The long gold brown hair, normally perfect styled but now hanging down mat and tousled. The shirt which is way too big and which seems to be the only piece of clothing the woman is wearing. And finally her face, she looks up from her arms just in the moment of the lightning. In her eyes you can see so much pain, pain and desperateness.
"I´m not as strong as you, Jane! How can I go on without you?"
That morning, the sun was brightly shining down on earth at that time, Jane Rizzoli left with her team to catch a suspect, and she never returned alive.
"Hey Maura, when I´m done with this guy we can finally go out tonight to that restaurant you keep telling me about during the last weeks, ok?"
Never again would Maura be able to show her friend anything, never again would she see her smile or her face when she exaggerated with her medical terms. Never again would they lie next to each other on the bed and talk about so many things, and then to fall asleep in the embrace of each other. Never again, because Jane was dead, shot by a man who only had a second longer to live after that.
So many tears are running down her cheeks, she just can´t stop them. Why Jane, her Jane? Still everything seems like a bad dream to her, a dream from which she will awake every moment. Surely Jane will enter the apartment in a minute to wonder why her friend is sitting on the floor in the darkness. But if she is honest with herself she knows that this is not possible anymore. A part of her that always tries to stay rational tells her that she can´t change what has happened and that she has to get up and to do something. But this part is drowned by the all-embracing sadness that possesses Maura and the only thought she has is that Jane is gone, forever.
