An: Written while listening to a song I think was called lay here it was either by the snow patrol or chasing cars. I had to get out by sad Wally feels some way. Major Birdflash bromance and slight Spitfire. I tried to keep it in canon.

Lay Here

Over the years it had become a tradition for Kid Flash and Robin to collapse in each others arms, falling asleep on the couch in the Cave's living room or one of their rooms after a tough mission and sometimes just to be near each other.

Robin would stumble into the almost empty Cave only to be swooped into Wally's embrace and carried to the couch because his best friend could see the exhaustion he was trying and failing to conceal. They would curl up together, Wally's arms still wrapped around Robin A bowl of popcorn would be knocked over on the floor next to them, a movie playing in the background as the two slept tangled up.

Sometimes Robin and Kid Flash would hang out together as civilians in Gotham. Dick and Wally would walk through a park, the ginger sometimes grabbing the brunette's hand, dragging him along to look at something or someone that had caught his attention.

They would sit under a big tree in a quiet spot in the park, shoulder to shoulder. Their eyes would close, soaking in each others company and listening to the birds chirp.

Other times they would go over to each other's houses for sleepovers, laying next to each other on a bed, talking or playing video games all night their hands intertwined.

They aged and grew, years passed. Kid Flash retired to go to college. Robin became Nightwing. When Artemis would go out for "Girls Night" Dick would come over and he and Wally would watch movies or play video games. Often falling asleep, curled comfortably next to each other. Artemis would come home very late at night and find them snoring wrapped around each other She would gently poke them awake with an exclaimation along the lines of "aren't you guys a little old to still be doing this". They would grin at each other sleepily murmuring things like "nope" and "never in a million years". Artemis would climb onto the couch next to them, happily fitting in, all of them falling asleep content.

For Dick and Wally laying next to each other intertwined was one of the most natural things. It was one of the things that would never change about them. A small comfort of sorts. Something that they would never stop doing, a truly peaceful habit. Their presence in each other kept them grounded, tethered to each other. It was one of the thing that they hoped would never change about them.

Nightwing lay against a headstone, curled next to it as close as he could get. He lay there for several hours, remembering, laying with his speedster one last time.

He finally stood, tears streaming down his face, walking from the dark grave yard. When he reached the gate he turned and whispered just one word. "goodbye".
