DM Edith Goes To the Movies
One very fine morning in the Gru residence, Edith overheard her parents talking about wanting to see a film at the cinema. ''Oh can I come?'' Edith begged her parents. She had heard that they were showing Sodor's Legend of the Lost Treasure at the cinema. It featured Thomas the Tank Engine. Edith had seen Thomas the Tank Engine on TV lots of times.
It was about a little blue tank engine called Thomas who lived and worked on a place called The Island of Sodor. ''I don't see why not keeton'' Gru said.
They drove to the cinema in the Gru mobile the next evening. Gru parked his Grumobile in the cinema carpark. Edith trailed after her parents inside. It was very busy inside the cinema indeed. Edith glanced at the posters advertising all the different films as she followed her parents around.
''Oh can I get some popcorn please?'' she begged, ''and a slush?''. ''Go ahead, little keeton'' Gru soothed, handing Edith some dollars. ''We'll be in the queue if you can't find us sweetie ok?'' Lucy added. Edith nodded, then hurried off quickly. She choose a box of popcorn and a mix of blue and green slush. On her way back, Edith looked at the posters again.
There was even one for Sodor's Legend of the Lost Treasure. Then her face fell though after all, her parents were bound to have some very different idea of a good film to watch. Edith soon found her parents wanting for her where they had just paid for the tickets. ''What film are we w w watching?'' Edith asked anxiously. ''Dis one, little Keeton'' Gru replied.
Edith stared away from her parents in horror. The film they were going to see was called Love. That was the last kind of film she ever wanted to see. Could things get any worse? Maybe it wasn't going to be such a good night after all.
Clutching her popcorn and her bright blue and green slush, she slowly followed her parents into the seating room where the film was to take place. The lights dimmed dark as the film began. As Edith chewed through her popcorn and slurped through her slush. She realized just how bored she was already even though they had only been there for about half an hour.
Just then, while she was still chewing and slurping, she heard a cross voice behind her. ''Edith! Why do you have to make that horrible noise?''. Edith turned around quickly. Yikes it was Miss Hattie the abusive orphanage owner. Edith and her sisters Margo and Agnes had spent quite some time living with her and now here she was again!
Luckily Gru and Lucy were way too busy paying attention to the film they hadn't noticed. ''Can't help it, it's popcorn'' Edith said timidly. Miss Hattie just scowled. Edith had to escape the abusive orphanage owner and the horrible film. She stood up quickly. ''Need the bathroom'' she whispered quickly to Gru.
Edith spent a long time in the bathroom, on her way back she sneaked into another room to what film that was. Wow, it was Sodor's Legend of the Lost Treasure. She saw Thomas the Tank Engine arguing with a pirate called Sailor John. Edith stayed for a while, then returned to the yucky love film in case her parents came looking for her.
She jumped quickly back into her seat and accidently knocked her slush. The remainings of it emptied out all over Gru's lap just as he was dozing off to sleep. ''GAAAAH!'' He howled jumping up quicky and spotting his daughter. Edith felt her blood go cold. She had never seem her dad so mad!
''Right dat's it!'' he snapped sharply ''We're going home now!''. Gru drove home in silence with Lucy and Edith and gripping the controls of his Grumobile very tightly. Edith thought it would be a very good idea to keep out of her dad's way until he calmed down, otherwise she had a feeling he might never take her to the cinema again, even to see something she wanted.
After her bath, Edith snuggled under her duvet. At least she had escaped a lot of the horrible love film.
