To Sora, a person's vision was only there to help someone reassure themselves of what they already knew. For instance, everyone knows what rain looks like, but still they gaze out of their windows on stormy nights. Still, they watched the rain fall to the ground, as they had watched before so many times. Sora believed that he didn't need his eyes at all, not even a little bit.

Riku didn't understand Sora's reasoning. Without your eyes, how would you know what people looked like? How would one know what color the flowers in their garden were, or what type of flowers they were? One day, he was so curious, that he asked Sora to explain to him why he felt that he didn't need his sight.

He told Riku to blindfold him, and Riku obeyed.

"I can't see you right now, Riku. But I can still feel you." He smiled, reaching a hand out to the taller boy to stroke his silver locks. "And I can still smell you; that smell that is purely you. The cologne you always, always wear, mixed with the smell of the outdoors."

He reached out blindly, his hand making contact with what he presumed was Riku's cheek. He stroked it slowly, and leaned forward, whispering, "And I can still kiss you. I can still taste you." Riku guided Sora to his lips, grinning into the sweet, tender kiss.

Pulling away Riku chuckled and asked, "Yes, but what about the trees? How will you see the leaves on their branches change colors with the season? And the sky? Would you really be happy without being able to watch a sunset ever again? And what about-" Sora pressed his index finger lightly again Riku's lips.

"None of that matters. I can feel your skin against my lips. I can still taste you; I can still smell you. I can still hear you breathing. I don't need my eyes to reassure me that I love you. I can feel it, right in here." Sora tapped his chest with one of his hands. "And I would pass up the chance to watch a thousand sunsets if it meant that I could be with you. Isn't that what's really important?"

To Sora, a person's vision was only there to help someone reassure themselves of what they already knew. It was completely unnecessary, only for the most ignorant people in a society. If people relied on, and believed only in what they could see, instead of what they could feel in their hearts, or what they believed in their minds, they would never be able to obtain true happiness.

Some people didn't understand his reasoning. Some rejected him, and others called him stupid. And as for Riku? After that day, Riku knew that Sora was the smartest person he had ever met.
