(Hello! Sorry I haven't been on lately, things have been busy, and I haven't really felt inspired to write. I will continue my other story later but right now I really want to work on this one. It's told from the mentor's point of view, looking back at his life. It will be multiple chapters. Warriors belongs to Erin Hunter and the characters belong to me. Have a great day! I hope you like it! :)
She was my first apprentice.
I remember when she was first born. My friend, Gingertail, had been bugging me to visit the nursery to check out potential apprentice options. We were young warriors and both very eager to have our own apprentice, however, I wasn't interested in watching kits fight over a mossball like Gingertail.
Gingertail just rolled her eyes at me and told me to shut up and stop being such a harebrain.
So, much to my resistance, I ended up one cloudy day watching with dry amusement as the kits tumbled about, chasing after one another and practicing 'battle moves'.
There were only five kits in the nursery, Stormheart's litter and Brightfur's litter. As I watched them race around the camp, I noted which one's were faster, stronger, and all together better suited to the life of a warrior.
Patchkit was strong and not afraid to get dirty or play dirty. Her size would make her a tough opponent in battle someday. Sweetkit, true to her name, tended to stay out of the fighting. I had a hunch she might become a medicine cat, but she was fast as lightning, and would make a fine warrior. Smokekit, the eldest of his litter, was not only strong, but also fast. The only thing that bothered me was his rude attitude to his siblings and friends. Ashkit was calm and quiet, with a good head on his shoulders. He wasn't extremely good at anything in particular, but was willing to learn. Last but not least was Cinderkit. Cinderkit had caught my eye from the moment I saw her standing up to Patchkit when she cheated in a game. Cinderkit was small and rather sickly looking, but a fire for justice burned in her and it stunned me. I wanted her. I wanted her for an apprentice.
Gingertail saw the look on my face immediately after she returned from a hunting patrol and smiled.
"Which one is it?"
I looked across the camp where Cinderkit sat, looking on as her friends and brother tussled with those flaming amber eyes.
"That one."
