A/N: This is my first 7th Heaven fic, so please R&R!
Setting: Ruthie had found out a week before that her best friend Peter was moving to Ireland with his mom and dad. His parents are married again, and now he faces the task of saying goodbye to his best friend, Ruthie Camden
Chapter 1: Saying Goodbye
"Goodbye Ruthie." Peter said through his tears. "I'll miss you." He embraced her in a suffocating hug, and held her there, not wanting to let go. "I'll miss you too." She managed to say through her tears. He let go, and got in to the car. Ruthie stood there, helpless and crying, until the car was out of sight. Her best friend was gone, moving halfway across the world, and she was broken-hearted.
There was a knock on Ruthie's bedroom door. "Can I come in?" Lucy's sympathetic voice asked. "Sure." Ruthie said, her eyes stained by tears. Lucy appeared in the doorway, and walked over to her little sister. "I know it's hard." She said, trying to calm Ruthie down, yet only making her cry harder. Ruthie and Peter had been very close; almost like brother and sister. They had laughed together, cried together, and helped each other through just about everything. Ruthie didn't know what she would do without him.
The next day at school, Paul, a classmate of Ruthie's, approached her. Paul had been Peter's guy best friend. "Ruthie," he began, not knowing how to word what he was about to say. "Would you want to go to a movie tonight?" he continued. "Um, okay." Ruthie replied surprised by the question. "Great, I'll be over at six." Paul said, before disappearing down into the science classroom. Ruthie smiled. She has liked Paul for a long time. Maybe this was what God had sent her, to help her keep her mind off of Peter. Grinning from ear to ear, she skipped down the hall, almost running into her friend Amanda. "Amanda," she began, "Paul asked me out!" she shrieked excitedly. Amanda had a look in her eyes that Ruthie couldn't explain. Then, she spun around, and ran in to the girl's bathroom. Ruthie followed her. "Amanda?" she asked helplessly to the girl on the other side of the stall. A teary voice replied, "I hate you Ruthie Camden!" The school bell rang, as a confused Ruthie ran to her first period class. "Why is Amanda acting like this?" she wondered, not so happy about her victory any more. "Why?"
