Bones looked sadly at her partner. He was standing there in front of her 4 steps down, looking absolutely confused, helpless and even an bit hopeless. They just finished another case. They decided to just take a walk and ended up at Lincoln memorial. Booth had been silent and Bones had let him. Only he stopped just before the stairs. When she turned around she found him looking at her the way she had only seen twice before. There first case back after his coma, just before admitting he loved her, albeit in an atta girl kind of way. The second time was when he told her he was the gambler and that it had to be him. That he believed in them.

"I can't." He whispered.

"You can't what?" she asked suddenly scarred. "You can't work with me anymore?" she asked silently. Tears stinging behind her eyes, already hurting at the thought. How could one man hold so much power over her.

"I can't move on Bones." Booth said.

Bones eyes shot open. "But…"

"I'm sorry. I know what I said but I can't." Booth said looking at her. His look still confused, helpless and hopeless. She looked at him, she didn't know what to say or do.

"I don't know how Bones. Somewhere in between getting to know you. Working with you, getting you to lower your walls. You walked right trough mine. I didn't even see it. I don't know how to get you out." Booth said while a single tear fell down his face.

Her mind raced. She walked through his walls. She had fought so hard to keep him out. How could she have walked through his. "I.. I don't know. I don't know how." She whispered.

Booth looked at her eyes shown with confusing, helplessness and hopelessness. He stepped up two steps. "I let you. I opened up, I trusted you, I gave it to you, I knew." Booth whispered.

He knew. How could he. "You knew. How?"

"You ask how? Because you trust facts. You never change and the fact is: that you're in my heart, within my walls and there is no way out. The real question Bones, is: did I tear down your walls and do I have a way out. Or did I climb them all and you build new ones around me. Is there a way out?" Booth asked.

Out? "No." Bones answered and that moment he took the last two steps and let his lips fall on hers.

When he slowly pulled away and looked at her, she still had her eyes closed and she turned away from him before opening them. "I need some time." She whispered and walked away.

Booth closed his eyes and sent a small prayer up to the dark blue sky, just before falling down on the stairs. His phone vibrated and apparently his prayer was heard. 'dinner tomorrow. Don't call, just meet me at the diner at 7.'

Booth looked at his phone confused and helpless wanting to call her. Only between all the confusing and helplessness shown a little hope.
