The earth is small. Like, really small. inconceivably small. It's like the opposite of space. and what you need to understand is this: we're small. all us humans. However, that doesn't stop us. we're so worried about global poverty and the environment, and crime rates, and cancer, we never think about the fact that we might actually survive. And we do. For hundreds and thousands and millions of years. Empires rise and fall on the face of our homeworld, and eventually, spread out, beyond our solar system, our galaxy, our cluster. Eventually we stop, we end, but that is how it must be. All things must pass. But we hold on until the very end, until we're hanging by the skin of our teeth.
And how do I know this? I've seen it. I've seen the great and bountiful human empires. I've seen the sun expand and destroy our home. I've seen us spread, and grow, and evolve. And I've seen us die. For I am the watcher, and it is my job to see. It was a punishment from so long ago, that I must exist beyond all else. That I must see, even when the bravest would turn away.
