This is one of the stories I wrote for the Alphabet Challenge this summer – first one in fact. As everyone knows the characters aren't our permanently – we're just borrowing them for fun.
N is for Naughty
Charlie sat on the stool where Mommy had put him because he yelled at her when she said he couldn't have any cookies. With a scowl he folded his arms across his chest, pushed out his lip and stomped his foot and then noticed that Mommy had walked into the other room. He waited a moment and then got up and peeked around the corner and watched as she sat on the sofa and began folding clothes.
He looked toward the door of the kitchen and a thought came into his mind. Getting on his tippy-toes, he moved toward the kitchen and the cookie jar that he and Mommy had filled with his favorite today – chocolate chip cookies!
Balancing on tiptoes, his small hands strained hard to reach the cookie jar on the counter above him. The child's brows lowered as he considered how to get the cookie jar down so he could get cookies out of the jar. He looked around the kitchen and saw a stool by the wall. Moving the stool to the counter he stood up on it and then rose up on his toes again where he discovered he still couldn't reach the jar.
With a heavy sigh he looked around again and then noticed the drawers in front of him. Pushing the stool to the side, he opened the bottom one and then stood up on the very edge and tried to reach the cookie jar and when he realized he still couldn't get to the cookies, he stepped down and opened the next one. One at a time, he staggered the width of the drawers and he kept trying to reach the jar. Finally after he opened the third drawer he was able to pull the cookie jar toward him but found he couldn't balance on the drawers and open the jar or pull it down to the floor so he could get in it.
He laid his head down on the counter and gave a wail of frustration and started to stomp his foot when he began to lose his balance. Grabbing tightly to the edge of the counter he held on and then carefully began to step down to the drawer below him. At the same time, he turned his head and noticed Mommy was standing next to him, arms folded across her chest and frowning at him.
"Charles Edward Eppes! Didn't Mommy tell you NO cookies?" she said in a very stern voice.
Charlie balanced on the edge of the drawer and bit his bottom lip and then he raised big brown eyes and with a sweet smile said, "I love you Mommy."
