X-Men: A New Revolution
Chapter One:
Nothing Comes From Nothing
-BH-
He pulled his helmet off of his head, and even though his sweaty white hair stood up like wires, he still had a dignity and stature barely matched by Mephistopheles himself. The man set his helmet aside as he looked into the white room.
The white room was empty save one 15 year old girl. Her black hair fanned out on the floor around her.
The man took a chair with him. Not to sit on, oh no, this chair would serve another purpose today. He walked into the white room.
The teenaged girl's pupils were nonexistent. To anyone else the sight of this girl would send them running. The man on the other hand set the chair in front of the girl and took her hand.
"How are you this evening my dear?" The man said as he lightly kissed her fingers.
"Wonderful. Thank you ever so much for asking. And how might you be?" The ends of her hair danced like flames as she spoke. It was almost as if her voice alone stirred the air around her immensely.
The man smiled at this. "I see you are recalling our lesson yesterday…Wonderful…" He walked to the wall in front of the girl. "Would you mind terribly my dear?" He asked.
"Oh most certainly not, it would be my pleasure." She said as a glass board and two expo markers appeared.
"Excellent. Thank you."
"Think nothing of it."
"Speaking of nothing…" He began writing on the board. "Our lesson for today is Existentialism vs. Nihilism."
The girl cocked her head slightly.
"First let us start with Existentialism. If you focus on the root it is 'Exist'." He pointed to the chair. "Is that chair there?"
"Yes, it its."
"How do you know it's there?"
"Because it is standing there."
"Why is it there?"
The girl thought…and thought… "Because I want it to be there?" She thought some more for extra credit. "I gave it meaning."
He clapped. "Exactly! But my dear, you are no mere human, you do not stop there, no, you go further and beyond." He was gaining a sense of passion, much like he always does when stating the power of his race. "What if you did not want the chair to be there?"
The girl made the chair disappear without the slightest movement or hesitation.
The man smiled that old and satisfied smile of his.
He turned back towards the board and taught the girl of Nihilism. When he was sure she had the concept, he walked up to her and knelt.
"My dear you have nothing to do since you finished all of the classics I gave you." He said as he looked at a pile of books that had appeared near the door. Among these books were great titles such as 'Frankenstein', 'The Picture of Dorian Gray', and 'Heart of Darkness'. "Were there any you loved above the others?"
The girl thought…and thought… "Frankenstein"
"Ah! A favorite of mine as well! Well then I think this book is perfect for you." He handed her a book called 'Grendel' by a man named John Gardner. "It was written in the 70's, but I'm sure you will love it."
She held the book as if it were delicate and frail, yet hugged it close as if it were her life blood in those pages.
"And remember my dear…" He brushed away a stray strand of hair from her face. "In a book with two heroes…one must die."
He took her finished books and walked out, closing the door behind him.
Magneto smiled that old and satisfied smile of his.
