Goosebumps: Where Nightmares Come To Life Chapter 1 Prologue

POV: Carly

I stared out my bedroom window, watching the water trickledown the glass. I frowned at the younger kids playing in the rain and riding their bikes.

Lucky. I thought bitterly.

I sighed and walked over to my bed. I felt terrified if I was completely honest. The mere thought of leaving home for any amount of time chilled me to the core.

I rested my head on my soft pillow and stared up at the ceiling. What was that sound? I tensed up and listened.

*Creaaaak!*

I looked toward the source and saw an all too familiar face. "Carly Beth?"

I took a few deep breaths before saying anything. "Noah, what did I say about knocking?!"

"I...forgot." Noah said bashfully, his cheeks turning red.

Noah had just turned eleven and I'll be the first to admit that he's changed. He's much more considerate and somewhat mature compared to when he was younger.

Physically, he's grown, too. His head reaches my neck. He also still has that same innocent kid look he had used against me nice upon a time.

With his messy brown hair, blue eyes and thin body, he looked like a smaller version of dad.

"Mom wants you to come downstairs." My little brother said.

Of course she does.

I rolled my eyes. "Tell her I'll be right down."

My brother nodded and disappeared down the stairs. I hated how my mom and dad used him as a messenger, instead talking to me themselves.

I pulled my suitcase from underneath my bed and triple checked the contents. I had everything I needed, it gave me a small sense of relief knowing that I was prepared.

I carried my things downstairs and made my way into the kitchen. I saw dad sipping from his warm cup of coffee, Noah eating a soggy bowl of cereal and mom cooking something on the stove.

"Eat quickly. We have to leave soon." Mom said, scrapping a pan of eggs onto my plate.

"Yeah, yeah. I know." I said dismissively.

I ate as fast as I could and put my plate in the sink. That's when I heard a knock at the door.

I walked out of the kitchen and up to the front door. I pulled it open and who else would be there but Sabrina Mason.

She had long, thin chestnut hair, brown eyes and pale skin. She wore a pink t-shirt with light blue jeans, and purple running shoes.

"Oh, um, hi." She gave me a small wave.

"Hey." I replied.

"Ready for the trip?" She already knew how I felt about the whole thing but somehow convinced me to go.

"As ready as I'll ever be." I said nervously.

"Excuse me." Noah said, squeezing past me with his suitcase in hand.

Sabrina and I moved out of the way of my parents and as my mom shut the door behind her, I felt goosebumps on my skin.

"So, how long is the drive?" Sabrina asked.

"Too long." Mom said dramatically. "Put your luggage in the trunk and buckle up. It's going to be a long trip."

Why do I get the distinct feeling that I won't be coming back from this trip?
